Accentuate the Positives – March 15-21

Accentuate the Positives

Leave behind the negativity and take a look at some of the good things going on in the world of wrestling.

Check your negativity at the door and let’s look at all the good things going on right now in the wrestling world (listed in no particular order).

Here’s your 10 positives for the week of March 15 through March 21:

1. Southpaw Championship Wrestling

If you’ve watched these videos, then you know why this is here. If you haven’t seen them, stop what you’re doing and watch them right now. Wrestling comedy doesn’t always hit the mark, but this is an absolute bullseye.

2. The Usos vs. American Alpha

The Usos were able to capture the SmackDown Tag Titles by defeating American Alpha on SmackDown this week. The match was very entertaining and I think WWE needs to find room on the WrestleMania card for these two teams to have a title match.

3. Impact Wrestling Viewership Reaches New High for 2017

Impact Wrestling’s viewership was up to 344,000 viewers, which is the highest numbers for 2017. Hopefully they can continue to build on this as the company turns the corner after transitioning to new ownership.

4. Mick Foley/Sami Zayn

I thought the opening segment from this week’s Raw was excellently done and I’m very interested to see where things progress with Sami Zayn. Sami has developed nicely into a multifaceted character and I felt that involving him with Mick Foley’s exit was a great decision.

5. Jim Cornette to Induct Rock & Roll Express

Hell might have frozen over as Jim Cornette returns to WWE for the first time in over a decade. Corny is my favorite manager of all time and I cannot think of a more fitting person to induct the Rock & Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame. Not only will Cornette having a live mic at the event add an intriguing element to the ceremony, but I’m hopeful that this is a sign that Cornette himself along with the Midnight Express will get their own induction in the near future.

6. Jericho’s Highlight Reel

The Highlight Reel segment from this past Monday was very entertaining and I thought it progressed Jericho and Kevin Owens’ storyline quite nicely. I like the idea of Owens and Samoa Joe being in an alliance based on their relationship with Triple H and I’m curious where that leads not only at WrestleMania but also afterwards.

7. Johnny Mundo Wins All the Gold in AAA

Johnny Mundo entered AAA’s Rey de Reyes this past Sunday as the reigning AAA Latin American Champion. He walked out with that title along with the AAA World Cruiserweight championship and the AAA Mega Championship. He was able to defeat El Hijo del Fantasma and El Texano Jr. in a triple threat match, taking Fantasma and Texano’s Cruiserweight and Mega championships respectively. This makes Mundo the holder of all of AAA’s singles championships. Mundo has proved that you can leave WWE in your prime and still make a name for yourself.

8. Katsuyori Shibata wins the 2017 NJPW Cup

Katsuyori Shibata won the 2017 NJPW Cup for the first time in his nearly 18 year career. Shibata defeated Bad Luck Fale in the tournament finals this past Monday. Shibata will now fight for Okada’s IWGP Championship. It’s a great accomplishment for the former 3-time NEVER Openweight Champion.

9. AJ Styles and Shane McMahon on a Collision Course

This feud has suddenly become personal and a major blood feud between these two. I’m still very curious to see what Styles and Shane can do at WrestleMania, but I feel like Styles is more than capable of carrying the in-ring stuff. I think AJ has proven in this feud that he’s a top guy in WWE and I think after his match at Mania, he’ll solidify that spot.

10. The Rock to Host SNL for the 5th Time

While I could’ve filled the list with WrestleMania hype, I decided to save this last spot for Rock announcing that he will host the season finale of Saturday Night Live this May, becoming a 5 time host in the process. It’s a cool achievement for the Great One, and I look forward to seeing what the show has in store for its finale.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to follow me on twitter and, until next time, stay positive!
