Last week was an eventful one for AEW, featuring a few debuts and tonight seems to build on that.
We start the show with Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and Tony Schiavone giving us a rundown of what’s to come.
Cody defeated Jimmy Havoc via pinfall (Cross Rhodes)
Commentary didn’t seem to totally love the tactics Havoc was using, but a win here would have been pretty important for him. Cody picked up the win with the Crossrhodes.
Throughout the match we saw people like Chris Jericho, Shawn Spears, and Billy Gunn gambling on the match up.
After the match, Jake Roberts delivers a message for Cody. Roberts says Lance Archer is chomping at the bit to get into the ring for AEW, with any opponent. All Roberts is looking for is a chance, for someone to bring them something to sign and make this happen.
Once Cody is back at the commentary table and responds to Roberts. He calls Lance Archer great but says he has no body of work in AEW. Will that body of work start with Cody? He says no, but says Archer will debut next week.
Before the next match, a Darby Allin video is shown. In the video, he said that he doesn’t think Sabian is Superbad, rather its just words he doesn’t fit.
Darby Allin defeated Kip Sabian via pinfall (Last Supper)
This was a great match between both young performers. Sabian had the match in firm control thanks to shenanigans from Penelope Ford, but Allin trapped the leg of Sabian and tied his legs up in a roll-up to snatch victory.
Jake Hager defeated Chico Adams via ref stoppage (Head and Arm Choke
As expected, this was all Hager, but what might not have been expected was what occurred after the match. JON MOXLEY APPEARED!
Moxley and Hager brawl for a bit, Moxley hits the Paradigm Shift but Hager no sells it and picks Moxley’s ankle. Moxley rolls out and stands tall in the ring.
Moxley cut a promo saying he’s cleared for action. He said Hager walked away from a fight tonight but he won’t walk away next time, and he’ll put him on a stretcher or die trying.
We saw a recap of Brodie Lee being revealed as The Exalted One last week. We then saw Lee eating a steak dinner next to Alex Reynolds and John Silver. Lee kicked Silver out for trying to take a bite of his dinner before Lee was finished eating, then kicked Reynolds out for sneezing. This seemed like a dig at Vince McMahon.
Brodie Lee defeated QT Marshall via pinfall (discus clothesline)
This was a showcase for the debutant. Marshall got some offence in, but he then fell to the discus clothesline.
Post-match, a masked Dark Order follower entered the ring and dropped a mask on the chest of QT Marshall.
We then hear from Vanguard 1, who provided a medical update on Nick Jackson, who is 61 percent recovered from the Inner Circle attack.
AAA Mega Title: Champion Kenny Omega defeated Sammy Guevara via pinfall (One Winged Angel)
This was superb, a very long and heated contest between two fantastic performers. They laid in some stiff strikes, and Guevara worked over the broken hand of Omega. Sammy also made out with a cardboard drawing of Brandi Rhodes, which Cody didn’t really focus on – he was more focused on what Star Trek captain had been brawn a few chairs down (Guevara had put some caricatures on a few ringside chairs.
Guevara missed a shooting star press and after a host of V-Triggers, Omega hit the One Winged Angel to pick up the win.
Chris Jericho then entered the ring to call out Matt Hardy. Vanguard 1 appeared, and Jericho offered the drone a spot in the Inner Circle. He cut a promo on the drone and said he hated his beliefs and everything he stood for, which was pretty funny.
Matt Hardy then appeared at the top of the arena and he teleported down to ringside. Jericho offered him a spot in The Inner Circle, and Hardy said he is Damascus and 3,000 years old. Hardy said AEW is paradise and freedom and he can’t allow Inner Circle to ruin paradise. Hardy promised to delete Jericho. This was very entertaining.
Jericho slapped Hardy, who dropped Jericho with one punch. Guevara then jumped Hardy, and the two beat him down. Cody and Omega then made the save. Guevara and Jericho tried to leave, but flames shot from the stage as Hardy shouted ‘Delete’.
