With news on Ric Flair, CM Punk and a match made for AEW Dynamite; Matt Booker brings you the Wrestling News Update.

CM PUNK RETURNING TO BACKSTAGE

WWE has announced that CM Punk will be present on the next episode of Backstage.

Punk’s return corresponds to Backstage returning to its original time of 11pm. Backstage had aired at midnight both this week and last, the reason for the move was the start of the NASCAR season.

Punk has made six appearances so far. Backstage has been suffering from inconsistencies in their viewership figures since the show began. Twi weeks ago they drew 173,000 viewers, which is considered good when they were regularly struggling to break 50k earlier this year.

WWE has also announced that WrestleMania 31 will be shown prior to the next episode of WWE Backstage.

JTG AND RIC FLAIR ANNOUNCED FOR THE BUMP

Next week’s edition of The Bump will celebrate the life of Shad Gaspard. JTG was Shad’s tag partner for many years while they worked for the WWE, and will pay tribute to his friend while on the show.

Ric Flair has also been announced for the show. He will be promoting his WWE 24 episode which is set to air on June 7.

FS1 SET TO AIR WWE EVOLUTION

Fox Sports has announced that the full Evolution 2018 pay per view will be airing on FS1 on 9 June at 7 pm ET.

Fox has been airing a number of older WWE pay per views recently, possibly filling the void of live sport. Evolution is certainly the newest one to be aired.

The event was headlined by Nikki Bella and Ronda Rousey, but many remember it for Becky and Charlotte. Lynch and Flair took part in a Last Woman Standing match which Dave Meltzer gave 4.75 stars, and ranked it 26 best of the year.

The pay per view took place on October 28, hosted by the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. On the night 10,900 attended the show.

RANDY ORTON BUYS A PLANE

Randy Orton has announced that he’s purchased a plane. The announcement came via the star’s Instagram account.

The Viper nonchalantly said that he “fucked around bought a plane”, before going on to promote his upcoming match with Edge at Backlash.

TAG MATCH ADDED TO POST DOUBLE OR NOTHING DYNAMITE

AEW has announced that Joey Janela and Private Party will team up to face The Young Bucks and Matt Hardy in six-man tag team action. The match will take place on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

AEW has also announced that Jon Moxley, AEW World Champion, will be appearing on tonight’s show, alongside new signing, Brian Cage. New AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida will also be in action, though it isn’t known who she’ll end up facing.

TERRACE HOUSE SHUTTING DOWN

Following the tragic passing of Hana Kimura, Terrace House has announced that production will be shut down.

Terrace House was a Japanese reality show, the premise is six strangers living together, getting to know and dating each other, Hana was one of the contestants. One evening, one of Hana’s housemates accidentally washed some of her wrestling gear, shrinking it. Apparently the set of gear was the same one Hana has competed at the Tokyo Dome in. She yelled at the housemate and slapped him. These actions drew a slew of online criticism. Days later she took her own life.

The production company released the following statement (translated):

About the passing of Ms. Kimura Hana, I am very sorry for your loss. I would also like to express my deepest condolences to the families. With regard to “TERRACE HOUSE TOKYO 2019-2020”, we have decided to discontinue production. We take this seriously and would like to continue to respond sincerely in the future.

ZACK RYDER FILES FOR NEW TRADEMARK

Zack Ryder has filed for the term “Major Player” with the US Patents and Trademark Office.

This isn’t Zack’s first filing. Recently Zack has filed for the following terms/names, Internet Champion, Thousand Dollar Broski, Let ‘Em Breathe, S.T.O.M.P. In Paradise, and Scratch That Figure Itch. Some of these relate to his popular podcast, but others obviously lean to a return to wrestling.
