The first ever IWGP United States Champion was crowned as Kenny Omega beat Tomohiro Iishi in the tournament final, after beating Jay Lethal in the semi final. Tomohiro Iishi beat Zack Sabre Jr in his respective semi final.
The IWGP US Title tournament quarter finals saw Jay Lethal beat Hangman Page, Zack Sabre Jr beat Juice Robinson, Kenny Omega beat Michael Elgin and Tomohiro Iishi upset Tetsuya Naito.
The Day one main event saw Kazuchika Okada best ROH World Champion Cody to keep his IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. We did see one new champion, as War Machine won back their IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles in a brutal no disqualification match against the Guerrillas of Destiny.
Day Two saw Hiroshi Tanahashi best Billy Gunn to retain his IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and The Young Bucks besting Roppongi Vice for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Titles. The big stories happened after the match as first Ricochet jumped The Bucks post match and challenged them to a title match, even taking a shot at a certain ‘Underground Fighting Company’ who won’t let him wrestle. We also then heard Rocky Romero say that he and Beretta are going to go their seperate ways, and Beretta is going to try his luck in the heavyweight division.
Other matches on Day One saw The CHAOS/ROH team of The Briscoe Brothers, Will Ospreay and Roppongi Vice beat The Bullet Club quintet of The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll, Yojiro Takahashi and Bad Luck Fale and in two eight man tag team matches, the L.I.J team of EVIL, BUSHI, Sanada and Hiromu Takahashi bested Dragon Lee, Titan, Volador Jr and Jushin Thunder Liger and the team of Jay White and Taguchi Japan (Hiroshi Tanahashi, David Finlay and KUSHIDA) beat Billy Gunn, Yoshi Tatsu and The Tempura Boyz.
Finally, Day Two’s other matches saw Kushida, Jushin Liger & David Finlay defeat Yoshi-Tatsu & The Tempura Boyz, Jay White, Dragon Lee, Juice Robinson, Titan & Volador Jr. beating Los Ingobernables De Japon, Hangman Page & Guerillas of Destiny besting War Machine & Michael Elgin and Cody, Marty Scurll, Bad Luck Fale & Yujiro Takahashi defeat Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay & The Briscoes.
We also heard the fantastic news from NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi that New Japan will return to the United States in 2018.
