Hiroshi Tanahashi Wins G1 Climax 28

Hiroshi Tanahashi wins his second G1 Climax tournament, as ‘The Ace’ gets his road to WrestleKingdom in 2019.

It appeared to be set that the G1 Climax would indeed be golden, but one of New Japan’s greatest ever superstars pulled an ace from his sleeve to secure a road to WrestleKingdom.

Hiroshi Tanahashi overcame Kota Ibushi in an unreal match-up to win the G1 Climax 28, ending his ten match tenure with an incredible record of 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.

In a highly emotional affair where Ibushi had his long-time partner Kenny Omega and Tanahashi had his best friend, the now-retired Katsuyori Shibata in his corner; Tanahashi managed to see off the high-impact, high flying offence of ‘The Golden Star’ after hitting three High Fly Flows in succession to win the trophy for the third time.

He will now go onto face the IWGP Heavyweight Champion (whoever that may be) at WrestleKingdom 13 at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th. However, he will have to defend this shot throughout the final few months of 2018 to secure his position in the main event.
