WWE ANNOUNCE INTERIM NXT CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT

During this morning’s episode of WWE’s The Bump, NXT General Manager William Regal announced that due to Jordan Devlin currently unable to travel and defend his title due to the Coronavirus pandemic, WWE is crowning an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

There will be a tournament to crown the interim champion, and the details for it will be revealed on NXT’s social media platforms in the forthcoming days.

Jordan Devlin was not happy about the news, calling it a “shocking and disrespectful decision by @WWE management.”

Devlin became the NXT Cruiserweight Champion by winning a fatal four-way match at Worlds Collide in January.

Regal was also asked about the NXT Tag Team Titles, co-held by Pete Dunne who is also held in the UK, and he said said he still has a decision to make and will hopefully be letting people know in the next week.

CM PUNK SET FOR WWE BACKSTAGE NEXT WEEK

During last night’s episode of the show, it was announced that CM Punk will be appearing on Backstage next Tuesday.

The show is currently being done remotely with the panelists and guests appearing from their homes. Punk was set to appear on the March 17th episode of Backstage, but that show didn’t happen due to FS1 temporarily suspending studio show production due to the pandemic.

Next Tuesday will be Punk’s fifth appearance as a Backstage analyst.

RHEA RIPLEY STILL IN UNITED STATES

Following her loss to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36, several sources stated that this was due to Ripley reportedly returning to Australia to deal with her visa expiring.

This was put into question when on her Instagram Story that she was still in Orlando, FL cooking dinner with her boyfriend on Tuesday evening. This was then flatly denied by the former NXT Women’s Champion herself when she said on her instagram story that she’s still in America.

NJPW CANCELS WRESTLING DONTAKU

New Japan Pro Wrestling has continued cancelling events due to the pandemic, this going through May 4th. This means that both Wrestling Dontaku events will now no longer happen.

In a statement on their English language website, NJPW said;

“In response to the continuing Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, and in light of state of emergency measures across Japan announced on April 7, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has arrived at the decision to cancel all events that were scheduled up to and including Wrestling Dontaku 2020 on May 3 & 4”

The statement also said that they are exploring the possibility of presenting matches without fans in attendance. However, they mentioned that this would only happen if “staff and wrestler health and safety can be protected to the highest possible standard.”

The last New Japan show to take place was on February 26th, a New Japan Road event in Okinawa.

Dragon Gate and Stardom have also cancelled shows off the back of Japan declaring a State of Emegency in an effort to curb COVID-19.

IMPACT ANNOUNCE THREE MATCHES FOR REBELLION

Following last night’s Impact, five matches have been officially confirmed for Rebellion.

Jordynne Grace will defend her Knockout’s Title against Taya Valkryie in a full metal mayhem match, Ace Austin will defend his X Division Title against Willie Mack and new Impact signee Kylie Rae will face Kiera Hogan.

The Rebellion pay-per-view was supposed to be held at Terminal 5 in New York City on Sunday, April 19th but that was cancelled due to obvious reasons. Impact noted that they were looking at alternative ways they could produce the event.
