Joe Hendry, The Most Entertaining Wrestler in The UK Today

With Insane Championship Wrestling holding their biggest event ever, and the biggest show in UK wrestling since World of Sport at its pomp, in a few short hours I felt it was right to shine a spotlight upon a talent in ICW that I feel is on the top of his game as the most enteraining wrestler in the UK.

The man has found his niche as a born entertainer, and has regularly had me and many others in stitches both live and via the internet. That man goes by the name of ‘The Local Hero’ or ‘The Global Hero’ Joe Hendry.

Here is why I feel he is the most entertaining wrestler in the UK. The man wears a knitted jumper with Local Hero knitted into it to the ring.

…..Oh you want more than that? Alright needy, well let me talk about his time in ICW.

To stand out as an entertainer in a company that has Grado as the top face is a pretty impressive feat in of itself but with a unique combination of comedy, charisma and musical talent – he has really shown himself as a top notch talent on the mic, and ever improving in the ring.

The young Scottish wrestler came in as a cocky young heel, managed by James R Kennedy in the Kennedy administration. He was the standout performer in that little group, as an athletic charismatic individual. For me, he was in the mould of an EC3 or a Mike Bennett in ROH. 6 foot 2 and 225 pounds, he most definitely had the look. Then, he dropped this.

This arrogant little ditty instantly made me fall in love with him, and started to follow his career as best I can. He then put the crumbling Kennedy Administration behind him and began to be beloved by the ICW faithful, and also started to crank out the best thing that he does. Show by show, bespoke entrances where he destroys his opponent.

There is the ICONIC one against his former manager, James R Kennedy;

and this glorious piece of character assassination of Sha Samuels.

Followed up by his latest piece of work, on the N.A.K’s Wolfgang.

Trust me; YouTube Joe Hendry, you’ll be laughing for ages.

You cannot deny that he doesn’t make himself stand out. Also, in a promotion full of swearing, violence and blood – he does not swear, he does not wrestle in bloodbaths and only recently making the choice to utilise the weapons (again another YouTube classic). He is also, as far as I know, the only wrestler in history that has done a live concert at an event that has got a reaction that wasn’t utter apathy. The Rock can stick his guitar up his backside, you ain’t no Joe Hendry!

Joe Hendry has got better and better and better every year he is in the industry. In 2013, he was only wrestling for 2 promotions in Scotland. This year, he has wrestled in 14 up and down the UK. He has the look, the promos, the charisma. He can sing (he is also in a decent band called Lost In Audio), he can perform, he can entertain and he is young. For me, he is everything that a company in American would want in a talent and if he keeps improving his in ring work that could be sooner rather than later.

At Fear and Loathing VIII, he is in a six man tag with former Kennedy Administration teammate Kenny Williams and top talent Noam Dar against Liam Thompson, Lionheart and the legendary Doug Williams. With the packed crowd at the SECC, I cannot wait to see what kind of entrance he breaks out for the biggest show he has ever been in.

Joe Hendry makes things better….for I-C-Double me and you? Soon, he’ll be making things bigger, in the I-C-Double-UK and International wrestling scene.
