WWE ANNOUNCE ‘WORLDS COLLIDE TOURNAMENT’ FOR RUMBLE AXXESS

A tournament featuring NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live wrestlers has been announced for Royal Rumble Axxess.

Entitled ‘Worlds Collide’, it will 15 wrestlers with five participants coming from each brand. The winner of the single-elimination tournament will receive an NXT, NXT UK, or 205 Live title shot of their choice.

There is a rather unique format, with a battle royal taking place, the order of elimination will determine the matchups for the first round, and the winner of the battle royal will receive a first-round bye.

NXT UK

  • Mark Andrews
  • Tyler Bate
  • Travis Banks

This will take place across three Royal Rumble Axxess sessions at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27.

 

PWI ANNOUNCE 2018 AWARD WINNERS

Becky Lynch has been announced as the 2018 ‘Woman of The Year’ by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. In a close vote, she saw off Ronda Rousey, Asuka and Tessa Blanchard to win the honor.

Ronda Rousey won ‘Rookie Of The Year’ with a staggering 87% of the vote. This is the largest margin since 1996, where WCW’s The Giant (now known as The Big Show in WWE) won with 88% of the vote.

AJ Styles won ‘Male Wrestler of the year’ for the third year running, seeing off competition from Kenny Omega, Seth Rollins and Cody. He is the second ever wrestler to win this award three times on the trot, the first being Ric Flair between 1984 and 1986.

 

AEW ANNOUNCER REVEALED?

It appears SiriusXM NFL Radio host Alex Marvez will be one of the All Elite Wrestling announcers. Marvez now lists AEW in his Twitter bio, along with the “#ChangeTheUniverse” hashtag. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Marvez had been in line for an AEW announcing position, especially since Marvez co-hosted Tuesday’s Double Or Nothing rally alongside Conrad Thompson.

 

IMPACT ANNOUNCER LEAVES THE COMPANY

Impact Wrestling backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell gave her notice at this past Monday’s television taping in Nashville, according to PWInsider.  Mitchell had been with the the company since 2016.

 

BANDIDO VS FLIP CONFIRMED FOR ROH DALLAS

Bandido vs. Flip Gordon will headline ROH’s Road to G1 Supercard show in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, January 24. This show will air live on HonorClub.

Bandido will make his ROH debut against Mark Haskins at TV tapings at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia this Saturday. Bandido vs. PJ Black is  set for Honor Reigns Supreme in Concord, North Carolina the next day.
