AEW ANNOUNCES FIRST SIGNINGS

AEW has made its first official signings. Having only been announced just after midnight as the new year started, Cody and several other key members of The Elite have now signed officially to the company. With the dust starting to settle, Cody took to Twitter and released the following statement:

“I feel so damn lucky. I believe that more than talent…more than chance…work ethic will guide me where I’d like to go. To be Executive Vice President for our new venture and to be flanked by Matt and Nick and af few familiar names sharing that position: this is my dream job.

I can’t think of a time when so many of wrestling’s top free agents all opted out of the road usually traveled and instead wanted to start something new. I am excited to see AEW into existence. What’s old isn’t new – what’s new is new. Perception isn’t reality – reality is reality. Fans first”

This was then followed by a picture from the AEW Twitter feed of Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Matt, Nick, and Dana Jackson and Adam Page all with fresh contracts in front of them. Matt even joked that he and Nick had managed to stay free agents for all of about 12 hours!

With it seeming that a few Impact contracts expired as 2019 dawned, another former X-Division champion declared his free agent status. Trevor Lee, who has held the X-Division championship on 3 different occasions, Tweeted the following on January 1st:

What could be more telling is the Re-Tweet from a member of NXT’s content team, with Trevor replying “see you soon”.

DJZ ANNOUNCES FIRST FREE AGENT BOOKING

Former X-Division champion, DJZ announced on December 31st that he would be a free agent as of midnight. DJZ joined Impact in 2011 and had become a mainstay of the X-division, holding the championship twice. Upon breaking the news, WWE’s Drake Maverick retweeted the message with only a cryptic thoughtful face as a way of comment:

DJZ has wasted little time in getting a few bookings in the new year, he has already been announced as fighting Travis Williams at a WAC Pro Wrestling event in January. A little more unexpected, was him being booked as the DJ for the Bullet Club Block Party event:
