MORE DETAILS ON THE PASSING OF GENE OKERLUND

Gene Okerlund’s son, Todd Okerlund has spoken to TMZ regarding the passing of his father. Todd stated that Gene has suffered a fall four days before he passed. This, combined with his recent poor health led to his passing. Todd added that Gene passed away with his wife, Jeanne, at his side.

Todd also passed on that the family had been touched with all the support for his late father.

 

BRANDI RHODES POSITION IN AEW

Brandi Rhodes has been named Chief Brand Officer at new independent promotion AEW. Posting on Twitter she said:

“I’ve dreamt of a life where I could marry my passions, combining my academic past with my entertainment future. I’m so excited to have been named Chief Brand Officer of AEW, and thrilled to continue to entertain inside and around the ring. 2019 is going to be amazing. #AEW”

It should also be noted that F4Online have stated that AEW has also signed Stardom, RISE ROH and Shimmer veteran Britt Baker.

 

NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool CARD FILLING OUT

Another match was added to the first NXT UK TakeOver event. Eddie Dennis and Dave Mastiff will battle in a No DQ match in the Empress Ballroom on the 12th of January. The card now looks like:

  • WWE UK Title Match: Pete Dunne (c) vs. Joe Coffey
  • NXT UK Women’s Title Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Toni Storm
  • NXT UK Tag Team Championship Tournament Finals: Tyler Bate & Trent Seven vs. Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster or Zack Gibson & James Drake
  • No DQ Match: Eddie Dennis vs. Dave Mastiff

 

JIM ROSS TALKS ABOUT HIS INVOLVEMENT WITH AEW

Jim Ross has played down his involvement with new promotion AEW. Speaking on today’s edition of his Ross Report podcast JR said the following regarding his involvement:

“I’m like a lot of folks, my names been banded around because people know my contract with WWE is going to end in March. So what? I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m not really concerned about it, I’m more concerned about celebrating my 67th birthday this week.”

Ross did go on to praise the newest venture on the wrestling landscape, saying:

“It’s good for the wrestling business, it gives people more places to work, more opportunities, for a lot of people, all you ask for is an opportunity.”

 

BANDIDO’S HONOR REIGNS SUPREME MATCH REVEALED

ROH has announced that the first opponent for hotly touted new signing Bandido, will be PJ Black. Posting on their website the company said:

“Bandido was the fastest rising star in professional wrestling in 2018, going from spectacular but relatively unknown athlete from Mexico to international star headlining the All In event seen on HonorClub! Bandido has signed an exclusive ROH contract and now HonorClub will get to see much more of this high flying athlete, including a first-time match-up against a man who has competed in 63 countries and 48 states, PJ Black, in Concord!”

 

NEW WWE VIEWERSHIP FIGURES

RAW posted better viewership figures this week, up from the Christmas Eve episode to 1.97 million. SmackDown’s New Year’s Day episode faired a little better beating RAW and scraping over the 2 million mark, the final figure was 2.09 million.

 

MLW SIGN DAVEY BOY SMITH JR.

Davey has been signed to a multi-year deal and will continue to appear in NJPW.

 

ROH PARTNER WITH NWA TO BRING BACK THE ‘CROCKETT CUP’

The PPV was last held in 1988. The event will be held on the 27th of April.
