NEW JAPAN CUP DAY ONE RESULTS

FASTLANE KICKOFF MATCH ANNOUNCED

WWE announced today that a tag match has been added to the Fastlane preshow this Sunday. The two teams in questions are Big E and Xavier Woods taking on Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura. WWE has the following to say about the team of Shinsuke and Rusev:

“The unlikely alliance of The King of Strong Style & The Bulgarian Brute is a very interesting combination of brutality and cunning. They forged their union in recent months out of the ashes of their respective United States Championship losses.”

Fastlane takes place this Sunday and is coming from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The kickoff show starts at 6 pm ET.

THREE WAY TITLE MATCH ANNOUNCED FOR G1 SUPERCARD

ROH announced today that the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship will be contested at the upcoming G1 Supercard. Not only will the belt be on the line, but three stars will be simultaneously competing for it. Taiji Ishimori will be defending his title against Bandido and Dragon Lee. While the match on its own is mouthwatering enough, the fact that all three companies (Bandido: ROH, Ishimori: NJPW, and Lee: CMLL) are represented puts the match over the top.

In a tweet, ROH released a video of Bandido to be in the match for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

TOMMASO CIAMPA HAS NECK SURGERY

Tommaso Ciampa’s scheduled neck surgery yesterday was a success, as reported by WWE. The NXT Champion found out less than a week ago that the surgery was required straight away, rather than the planned hiatus of after Takeover: New York. Ciampa has undergone an anterior cervical fusion. Although WWE has given no official word, the typical recovery time for that kind of operation is 4-6 months.

MARK HENRY PLANS CTE DONATION

Chris Nowinski, former WWE superstar made an appearance on Busted Open Radio earlier today. The interview focused on Chris’s work with CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and concussions. During the interview, Chris expressed how hard it can be obtaining the brains of recently deceased athletes, even detailing how he on occasion has to call recently widowed women to obtain consent. Mark Henry co-hosts the show and had plenty to say on the subject. Mark Stated:

“I definitely want to go on record saying I am donating my brain to the brain bank, I hope that something good can come out of ya’ll having my brain, maybe it’ll help with figuring out how things work in the future that will be benefitting my kids and everybody else’s kids. I know you (Chris) have a beautiful young baby girl and we always want the future to be better for our families.”

Chris had to retire early from wrestling due to post-concussion syndrome. Since then he has pushed for research into the long term effects of concussions and multiple concussions and event played a part in the discovery of CTE. Chris also founded and is now president of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, an organization which obtains consent from athletes for their brains to be studied after death.

KEN SHAMROCK ANNOUNCED FOR WXW

The WWE’s former one-time Intercontinental Champion and NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ken Shamrock has been announced to wrestle for wXw. The German wrestling promotion wXw have announced that the ‘Worlds Most Dangerous Man’ will be competing at their ‘Superstars of Wrestling’ event, taking place on the 1st of June. Ken’s opponent hasn’t been announced at the time of writing.
