Seth Rollins will host Rey Mysterio’s retirement. While Charlotte Flair will face Asuka.
After commentary gives us a run down of tonight’s show, Seth Rollins made his entrance. Rollins is with Murphy and Austin Theory. While Rollins gets in the ring, his disciples find a seat ringside.
Although he has a match with Aleister Black coming up and Rey Mysterio will be on later to talk to the WWE Universe, Rollins thinks he won’t be able to formally announce his retirement. Instead of hearing the words from Mysterio, Rollins said he would handle the announcement for him.
Rollins is a leader and said he wanted to appreciate the generosity of Rey Mysterio. He then has a video play that showcased Mysterio’s career, or so we thought. The video took a turn from all these wonderful moments in Mysterio’s career to Rollins’ attack on him from a few weeks ago.
After the video, Rollins said he would want to induct Mysterio into the WWE Hall of Fame. Then Aleister Black came out, ready to attack Rollins for his words.
Aleister Black defeated Seth Rollins via Pinfall
This match received a ton of time. Control went back and forth, until Rollins truly began to take over. At one point Black got thrown to the floor and just when it seemed Murphy and Theory would take advantage, Humberto Carrillo made the save. Towards the end of the match, Murphy and Theory tried to make their presence known again, but this lead to Black gaining the Pinfall.
Unfortunately for Black, Theory and Murphy attacked him after the match. Carrillo tried to get involved, but Rollins put an end to that quick with a curb stomp. Rollins then yelled at Black for trying to be a hero. A curb stomp for Black.
After hyping up the return of RAW Talk, we got a recap of how Apollo Crews came to be the new United States Champion. We then went backstage to Charly Caruso interviewing Angel Garza and Zelina Vega.
We saw a replay of what happened between Angel Garza and Kevin Owens last week and then Caruso tried to get some answers. Vega began to take over the interview, but Garza stopped her. According to Garza all is fair in love and war. He flirts some with Caruso, leaving her with a rose. Of course Vega destroyed said rose and then we went to commercial.
Back from commercial, we heard from Shawn Michaels on his thoughts about Edge versus Randy Orton. HBK listed off a bunch of his iconic matches and said he believed Edge and Orton can live up to the hype. As for who he believes will win the match? HBK picked Edge.
Afterwards we get a recap of what has been going on between MVP, Bobby Lashley, and WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Then Lana is seen backstage talking, well yelling at MVP. MVP isn’t having any of it and wanted to focus on his match with McIntyre. He said some things Lana didn’t appreciate and she slapped him.
Back from commercial, Apollo Crews made his way down to the ring. Crews announced his hand picked opponent will be Kevin Owens.
Owens came out and gave Crews props for winning the United States Championship. While Owens normally is all about getting a title shot, he felt like this was a pity opportunity. A pity opportunity because of what happened last week with Angel Garza.
Crews made it clear that this opportunity was because Owens deserved it. Owens agrees and said he felt bad that Crews’ title reign will be so short.
Apollo Crews versus Kevin Owens ends in a no contest
Unfortunately a good match between Crews and Owens was ruined by the interference of Angel Garza and Andrade.
We head to break with Zelina Vega’s boys beating up Crews and Owens.
When break from break, we have an impromptu tag team match!
Apollo Crews and Kevin Owens defeated Angel Garza and Andrade via Pinfall (Blue Thunder Driver)
A fun match honestly. Once again for Apollo Crews, he pinned Andrade. Crews and Owens stood tall and then we went backstage.
Asuka is interviewed by Kayla Braxton about her match with Charlotte Flair. She said she doesn’t bow down for anyone. As for her Backlash opponent, Nia Jax, Asuka said she will take down the bully.
Back from commercial we got a recap of the “Anything you can do, I can do better” competition between the Street Profits and the Viking Raiders. We then went to the bowling alley, where the Viking Raiders defeated the Street Profits…tying up the competition.
After a recap of what occurred between the IIconics and Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, is shown. Then before commercial, an argument between the two teams is being broken up by Adam Pearce.
Billie Kay defeated Nikki Cross via Pinfall (Spinebuster)
Nikki Cross seemed to have control for much of this match up, but a slight mistake was her downfall. Cross went to the top rope in an attempt at a crossbody but Kay moved just in time., which was all she needed for the win.
Charly Caruso then interviewed Drew McIntyre backstage. He said he doesn’t back down from a challenge. He has beaten seven superstars since becoming the champion and tonight MVP will be the eighth.
Rey Mysterio is interviewed over satellite when we got back from commercial. He said he is recovering and doesn’t have an answer on if he can return to a WWE ring. He said he had been thinking about retirement, but the answer is unclear at this point.
When asked about the retirement ceremony that took place earlier, Mysterio was angry about Rollins saying he was “chosen” like a sacrifice. Suddenly Mysterio’s son Dominik showed up and Dominik was not happy at all. Dominik said someone from the family needs to make Seth Rollins pay, Mysterio tried to calm him down.
Mysterio then addressed Seth Rollins. While he may be a man of forgiveness, he will never forgive Rollins for what he did or what he put his family through. He walked off, but Dominik was still there. He ended the interview by saying, an eye for an eye.
Back at ringside, Nia Jax made her entrance. Jax got a mic and said she did not start anything. In fact she has been attacked by Kairi Sane and Asuka, the classic 2 on 1 apparently. She said that Asuka was gifted the RAW Women’s Championship because of hormones. Jax said she is the victim in all of this and will expose Asuka as the charlatan she is. Cause apparently Asuka is a backstabber.
After a commercial, we get an update on 24/7 Champion Rob Gronkowski. He is in his backyard and is about to film a Tik Tok but things don’t seem right. There is someone working on the mulch, R-Truth. At the perfect time, the person filming the Tik Tok, reveals a referee shirt and Truth rolls up Gronk. Truth has his baby back!
Nia Jax defeated Kairi Sane via Pinfall (Leg Drop)
Kairi had started this match off so great. Kairi had Jax reeling after a few great kicks. Her troubles started after a missed baseball slide, Jax wound up stopping her and pulling her to the outside. Jax threw her against the steps and that was the end.
Asuka made her way out to the ring to defend her tag team partner. She wound up having a stare down with Jax, but nothing more as Jax left the ring.
We get a promo from Randy Orton about his match against Edge at Backlash. Orton admitted that Edge was right a couple weeks ago, Orton does do this for a pay check and doesn’t have the passion like Edge does. At Backlash, Orton said he will be victorious and Edge’s storybook ending will be rewritten by the most destructive letters in sports entertainment…RKO.
We then got the entrance of the NXT Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair and then another commercial.
After commercial, Charlotte cuts a promo before her match with Asuka. She talked about defending the NXT Women’s Championship this weekend. Flair said she wants the women from the PC in the crowd to be the next Rhea Ripley or Io Shirai. But she really only wants this so she can make them bow down.
Then Flair, lists off Asuka’s accomplishments, saying it seems like Asuka wants to be just like her. She doesn’t get to continue as Asuka made her entrance.
Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka via Count out? I think?
While we know these two women can put on a fantastic match, the ending here was odd, or just confusing. After knocking Asuka off the apron, Nia Jax made her entrance. Jax came out wearing a mask like Asuka ad revealed makeup like Asuka. It seemed like Asuka forgot she was in a match and got counted out?
After the bell, Nix Jax ran at Asuka bull dozing her over.
Lana is then interviewed backstage. Charly Caruso asked her if she thinks Bobby Lashley asked her to stay away from ringside during his matches because he wanted to or was it MVP’s influence? Lana said while her Bobby asked her to stay away from his matches, he never said anything about MVP’s. She laughs as we go to commercial.
We got the entrance of Bobby Lashley when we got back from commercial. Then MVP and Drew McIntyre. Before the match started though, Lana’s music hit, Lashley and MVP looked very confused, but McIntyre just smiled.
Drew McIntyre defeated MVP via Pinfall (Claymore Kick)
Lashley caused an interference once during the match, which led to McIntyre getting pushed into the ring post. Otherwise Lashley and Lana were both kind of just there. The slight distraction didn’t do anything to deter McIntyre from victory.
After the match, Lashley put McIntyre in the Full Nelson and that is how we ended RAW.
