WWE Stars Reportedly In Self-Isolation | Wrestling News Update, March 24 2020

With news from WWE, AEW and Impact; Matt Booker brings you the Wrestling News Update.

WWE STARS REPORTEDLY IN QUARANTINE

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Melzter said that both Rey Mysterio and Dana Brooke were under quarantine, but he had no further information as to their actual status. With WrestleMania reportedly being filmed today and tomorrow, the two stars would obviously be unavailable for the tapings.

Neither star has posted anything on their respective social media accounts regarding their health recently. However, neither star took part in the last episode of RAW or SmackDown respectively, and Dana Brooke has been removed from the six-pack challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Title. Mysterio is not a part of the show at time of writing.

TWM wishes both stars the very best of health, and a quick recovery from any possible illness.

CODY JOINING DYNAMITE COMMENTARY TEAM THIS WEEK

Cody Rhodes will be joining Tony Schiavone on commentary for this week’s episode of Dynamite.

The news was broken on Twitter by Cody himself. In the message he wrote:

This Wednesday I’ll be joining @tonyschiavone24 on commentary LIVE for #AEWDynamite

(I have a bad habit on commentary that I’ll be totally leaning into, and hopefully it turns into something fun for the fans watching at home)

More info to come…

While it is not known if Excalibur and JR will be joining the pair, most are assuming that AEW will be running a reduced team in some form in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

WWE ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NXT TAKEOVER MATCHES

With the wrestling world thrown into chaos these last few weeks, plans have been drawn up to fill gaps created by reduced schedules.

WWE has announced that the matches due for NXT TakeOver: Tampa, will be shown on episodes of NXT over the next few weeks. This will start with next week’s April 1 show.

The only match confirmed for the event was a women’s ladder match to determine the number one contender to Rhea Ripley’s NXT Women’s Championship. This will feature Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, and Tegan Nox, with two spots yet to be filled.

Another possible match that hasn’t been confirmed is Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream. Keith Lee is also rumoured to be putting his North American Championship on the line, although his opponent is unknown.

WWE NETWORK NOT AVAILABLE IN SAUDI ARABIA UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

WWE Network account

With WWE unlocking a huge amount of content yesterday, it comes as a surprise that one of their biggest markets is currently unable to access the network at all.

Earlier today WWE confirmed that fans in Saudi Arabia were currently unable to access the WWE Network, and would be unable to “until further notice”.

Apparently, the issue isn’t the sign of a falling out between the company and Saudi regime, but rather the result of a slow-moving business deal. WWE Chief Financial Officer Frank Riddick stated that they expected the deal to go through, just that the time frame wasn’t fixed. Frank was quoted as saying:

The uncertainties are around the timing and the amount, not that these deals will eventually be done.

IMPACT CANCELS ALL EVENTS IN APRIL

Impact Wrestling has announced today that they have been forced to cancel their upcoming April events in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, IMPACT Wrestling will not be hosting “Against All Odds” on April 17th in Toronto, the April 19th “Rebellion” pay-per-view event at New York City’s Terminal 5 and the April 24th & 25th TV tapings in Columbus, Ohio. We are monitoring the situation closely and are looking at alternative ways that we can produce the events. All tickets will be fully refunded from point of purchase.

The safety of our fans, talent and staff is of utmost importance and we will continue to adjust plans as necessary while still delivering as much IMPACT Wrestling as possible.

The decision affects four different events, Against All Odds, set for Canada on April 17, Rebellion, hosted in New York on April 19, and TV tapings on April 24 and 25 in Columbus Ohio. Impact Wrestling has stated that all tickets sold would be refunded.

In the statement announcing the cancellations, Impact stated that they were currently and actively looking for different ways to produce the events.
