This Saturday night, August 31st from the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago All Elite Wrestling’s highly anticipated All Out will premier.
This spectacle has something for every fan including the match that will crown the first ever AEW champion. Many changes have been made to the main card during the build up to this event due to injuries to some of the performers – what hasn’t changed is the excitement and hype from fans and insiders alike. Let’s take a closer look at the individual matches and I’ll make my 100 % non-guaranteed predictions.
The Buy In
Casino Battle Royale
The (Casino) Battle Royale returns to The Buy In, AEW’s answer to a pre-show. The stipulation remains the same: 21 participants are each given a random playing card, with those wrestlers with the same suit entering the ring together. However there is a Joker in the deck which guarantees the holder the advantage of entering last. Much like last time, the winner gets a title shot at the next opportunity; unlike last time, this match is focused on the woman’s division.
Confirmed participants are Jazz, Teal Piper, Ivelisse, “Big Swole” Aerial Monroe, Sadie Gibbs, Nyla Rose, Dr. Britt Baker, Yuka Sakazaki, Shazza McKenzie, Allie, Awesome Kong and Brandi Rhodes, who will probably hold the Joker if it’s not a big surprise. However, as hard as they are to predict, I believe Britt Baker, the first female signee for AEW, will be the last woman standing.
Prediction: Britt Baker
Private Party vs Angelico & Jack Evans
The red hot tag team of Private Party will square off against Angelico and Jack Evans during The Buy In portion of the show. This will be a high flying match with tons of excitement as both teams will put their athleticism on display. Don’t be surprised to witness the brash team of Private Party putting their swag on full exhibit. Quen and Kassidy certainly gained the attention and respect of wrestling fans as well as their fellow performers with a strong performance at FyterFest.
Private Party and the team of Angelico and Jack Evans have faced a common opponent while in AEW. The team of Chuck Taylor and Trent of Best Friends defeated Private Party at FyterFest and also secured a victory over Angelico and Jack Evans at Double or Nothing. I expect this match to be highly entertaining but in the end Private Party will prove they are the real deal and legitimate tag team title contenders.
Prediction: Private Party
Kenny Omega vs PAC
One of the major changes to the card at All Out is PAC replacing Jon Moxley against Kenny Omega. The anticipation for Moxley v Omega was huge. The bad blood between these two dates back to Double or Nothing when Moxley brutalized Omega and Jericho at the conclusion of Double or Nothing. Fast forward to the end of FyterFest when Kenny Omega returns the favor to Moxley by savagely beating him in retaliation for the attack at Double or Nothing. The stage was set for a monster match at All Out until Jon Moxley had to pull out reportedly due to injury.
This will be the first time we will get to see PAC in AEW. Fans will remember that he was originally scheduled to face Adam “Hangman” Page at Double or Nothing but creative differences which could not be resolved led PAC to pull out of that event. Speculation was that PAC did not want to lose a match while he was still the world champion of Dragon Gate.
PAC will bring his high flying, acrobatic style into the ring against the more traditional and technical style of Kenny Omega. There should be plenty of action in this match and it should be a fun one to watch. PAC, through no fault of his own, is in a no win situation as the fans can’t help but be disappointed that Moxley v Omega is not happening. Having said that, I expect PAC to come out hot and put on an explosive performance against Kenny Omega. In the end it will not be enough and Kenny Omega will earn the victory over PAC.
Prediction: Kenny Omega
Riho vs Hikaru Shida
Riho will face off against Hikaru Shida in single’s action in the women’s division. The 22 year old Riho will attempt to utilize her skill as a wrestling technician to offset the physical discrepancy between her and Shida. Rhio is four inches shorter and 30 pounds lighter than her opponent. The margin of error for Riho is razor thin in this match and Riho is no stranger to taking on much larger competitors. Rhio is coming off an impressive tag team showing at Fight for the Fallen. She partnered with Britt Baker to take on Shoko Nakajima and Bea Priestley during the Buy In portion of the show. Rhio and Baker were ultimately defeated but the duo received high marks from many observers.
Hikaru Shida clearly has more experience and a physical advantage on her side. Riho has youth on her side, which is something that should not go overlooked. Youth would certainly benefit Riho as the match progresses. A shorter match would favor Shida while a longer match may benefit the younger athlete. My prediction is the size and strength of Hikaru Shida will be too much for Riho to overcome. Shida with the victory in this one.
Prediction: Hikaru Shida
Joey Janela vs Jimmy Havoc vs Darby Allin
One of the most compelling matches on the main card is the three way match between Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin, and the self-proclaimed bad boy Joey Janela. There is no telling what type of mayhem will ensue during this match between three of the most hardcore wrestlers in the business. What is clear is that these three cannot wait to get their hands on one another. Violence erupts anytime there is more than one of these individuals in the same location. “No time like the present” seems to be their collective motto as a street fight invariably breaks out when they see each other.
My expectation for this match is pain, bloodshed and destruction. The recipe for this match seems to be chairs, tacks, barbed wire, tables, and ladders. History has shown us that there is almost no limit to the amount of abuse each is willing to endure in order to secure a victory. This is not a match for the faint of heart. The build up to this match in particular has been fantastic and I expect the match to live up to the hype. My prediction is that after a bloody, nasty, vicious fight Jimmy Havoc will emerge battered but victorious.
Prediction: Jimmy Havoc
Winners Get A First Round Bye In AEW Tag Team Title Tournament – The Dark Order vs Best Friends
The Dark Order will take on Best Friends in tag team action on Saturday night at the Sears Centre. Both teams have been turning heads during their brief time in AEW. Best Friends defeated Jack Evans and Angelico at Double or Nothing to kick off their AEW career. The duo followed up this victory by defeating Private Party and SCU at Fyter Fest. The Dark Order entered AEW in bizarre fashion by constructing a human pyramid in the middle of the ring at AEW’s inaugural event Double or Nothing. They then defeated Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy at Fight for the Fallen.
Both tag teams have their sights set on a much bigger prize, the AEW Tag Team Championship. This is not your average tag team match as the winners will be awarded a first round bye at the upcoming AEW Tag Team Tournament. With so much on the line, I expect that this will be a hotly contested match with lots of energy. I see the Dark Order winning this with interference from the minions.
Prediction: The Dark Order
Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt vs S.C.U
In other tag team action Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt will take on SoCal Uncensored (SCU) in a six man tag team match. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy lost via pinfall in a three way tag team match to The Dark Order at Fight for the Fallen which also featured Jack Evans and Angelico. Double or Nothing saw SCU defeat #StrongHearts while Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy were eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale during The Buy In portion of the show. SCU was in action at FyterFest in a three way match against Private Party and Best Friends, where Trent and Chuck defeated Private Party via pinfall which gave them the match victory. Jungle Boy competed in a four way match with MJF, Hangman Adam Page, and Jimmy Havoc.
Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are obviously very familiar with each other. What remains to be seen is if the addition of Marko Stunt will change the dynamic? The advantage that SCU has is that there is no uncertainty among the trio from a strategy and wrestling standpoint. One miscalculation between Stunt and his tag team partners could cost them the match. Additionally, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt are undersized compared to their opponents. This physical discrepancy and the uncertainty that a new partner brings will be too much for Jungle Boy, Marko Stunt and Luchasaurus to overcome. SCU wins this match in convincing fashion.
AEW Title – Chris Jericho vs “Hangman” Adam Page
“Hangman” Adam Page versus Chris Jericho is going to be an epic match with the winner claiming the promotion’s first ever championship belt. The savvy veteran with a chip on his shoulder against the young hot shot looking to carve out a niche for himself. For his part Page has been all business. He won the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing (which guaranteed him a title shot), he won the four way match against Jimmy Havoc, Jungle Boy and MJF at FyterFest and defeated Kip Sabian at Fight for the Fallen. After his victory over Sabian, a masked Chris Jericho attacked Page setting up the mega match this Saturday night. Chris Jericho defeated Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing to claim a title shot against Page this Saturday night.
What can we expect from this match with AEW’s first ever championship on the line? Will this be the defining moment of a distinguished and decorated career for Jericho or will this be the foundation on which Adam Page builds his legacy? If Jericho wins the title will he finally get the “thank you” he believes he is owed from the fans and his peers? We will have to wait and see how it plays out on Saturday night. We know from history that the moment will not be too big for Jericho. Hangman will walk into the ring with a 3-0 record in AEW which should instill confidence within himself. For me, Jericho wins this match to be the first AEW champion in history. I can envision a show of respect from Jericho to Page at the conclusion of the match.
Predictions: Adam Page
Escalera de la Muerte for AAA Tag Team Titles – The Lucha Brothers vs The Young Bucks
The AAA World Tag Team Championship will be on the line when The Lucha Bros take on The Young Bucks. The Young Bucks have been instrumental in the development, creation and success of AEW and they would like nothing better than to retain the AAA championship by defeating The Lucha Bros once again. These two teams are no strangers to each other – they met at Double or Nothing when The Young Bucks defeated The Lucha Bros in front of a packed house to retain their titles.
Revenge will certainly be on the minds of The Lucha Bros as they prepare for battle against a familiar foe. Both teams excel in the high flying, acrobatic, luchador style of wrestling. The Double or Nothing match was full of excitement, energy and passion from members of both teams. This rematch should be even more exciting to watch. I admit I have a bias towards the luchador style of wrestling as I think it is the most entertaining style in the business. This is the match I am most excited for and I know it will live up to the hype. With revenge and pride fueling them on The Lucha Bros will defeat The Young Bucks to retain the AAA Tag Team Championship.
Prediction: The Lucha Brothers
Cody vs Shawn Spears
Cody Rhodes has a score to settle with Shawn Spears. Rhodes had just battled Darby Allin at FyterFest to a draw when Shawn Spears entered the ring and delivered a shot to the head of Rhodes with a steel chair. The attack left Rhodes bloodied with a gash behind his ear in what many are calling a botch job.
Spears apparently took issue with being called “a good hand” by Rhodes. Spears elaborated on the issue by stating “It’s a curse of the industry to be called a good hand… He should know better… Clearly he forgot, and that’s why I wrapped a steel chair around his face…” Spears has enlisted Tully Blanchard to be in his corner as manager during the match. The former founding member of the Four Horsemen will provide strategy and insight to Spears during this match.
MJF has taken particular offence to the attack on his best friend Cody Rhodes.
I think there is an angle for MJF, who is not on the card for All Out, to retaliate against Spears on Rhodes’ behalf. This could set up a feud between Spears and MJF going forward. I can also envision MJF turning on Rhodes to further cement his status as the alpha heel of AEW. Barring MJF turning on Rhodes I cannot see Rhodes losing this match to Shawn Spears. My prediction is for Rhodes to win the match and then for MJF to attack Spears after the match has ended.
Well that’s a wrap on my predictions for All Out. I’d love to read your comments and predictions.
