With Lance Archer testing positive for Covid, Eddie Kingston now gets an opportunity at the AEW Championship when he takes on Jon Moxley.
We opened the show with the entrance of Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford. Kip came to the ring with a microphone. He said it was time for the moment of the in ring debut of his best man, Miro! Then he introduced Miro to the ring.
Then their opponents, Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela made their entrance. During their entrance, a video was played of comments Janela had for their opponents. He said that Kip Sabian had made a bad, bad mistake and he was talking about when he proposed to Penelope. Janela just wanted to warn him, but Sonny and him aren’t here to talk real life issues. Sonny and him are on the express to victory.
Kip Sabian and Miro defeated Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela via Submission (Game Over)
Janela and Sonny were able to start the match off with quick tags and isolating Sabian from Miro. Sabian did himself no favors by tagging himself in before Miro could really do anything. Once Miro truly and finally got in the match, everything changed. After Sonny Kiss took the majority of the fight from Miro, Kiss finally got the tag to Janela. Their best opportunity at changing the tide happened when Miro landed funny on his ankle.
Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, a huge kick by Miro to Sonny Kiss and then the Accolade, or apparently what commentary called Game Over, was locked in.
Eddie Kingston made his way to the ring as Miro, Sabian, and Penelope were leaving. Kingston said to leave the hard camera on because he wanted to talk to the people at home. He let everyone know, those who don’t check social media, that he would be facing Moxley later in the night for the AEW World Championship. After not being eliminated from the Casino Battle Royal that is why Kingston is getting this opportunity.
Kingston said though that 18 years says he deserves this shot. He said he used to be cut from the same cloth as Moxley, that is until Mox sold out. Kingston stayed with the outlaws and fighters, never selling his soul. He just wanted to look into the entertainers eyes before beating him. Then Kingston called out Moxley.
Moxley wasted no time answering Kingston, as he entered through the crowd. Immediately after getting into the ring, the two men were in each other’s face. Before anything could happen, referees came out to break up the men. Then we went to commercial break.
When we returned from break Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone ran down the matches to come tonight. Then we got the entrance of Kenny Omega. While Omega was making his entrance, Excalibur told us that Hangman Page’s match was originally offered as a tag team match but Omega declined.
Hangman Adam Page defeated Evil Uno via Pinfall (Buckshot)
Anna Jay, Colt Cabana, and the rest of The Dark Order did not leave the entrance ramp during this match. Evil Uno used some innovative, and rather unorthodox, offense by using the referee to pull off a move. Returning from picture in picture is when Hangman staged his comeback, this is also when Evil Uno sent The Dark Order to the back.
Footage from earlier of Tony Schiavone talking to Matt Jackson. Schiavone didn’t seem too excited to be outside The Young Bucks locker room, but knocked anyway.
Matt was glad to see him and started by saying that he knows people at home have noticed The Young Bucks acting out of character. He said they were out of line and never should have put their hands on Alex Marvez or super kicked Mike Posey, not that he actually remembered their names. Matt said they feel terrible and will do better.
He said he hopes people at home sympathize with them because The Young Bucks have gone through and lost a lot. From title opportunities to friendships, they have lost a lot, but no matter what Matt promised again they will do better. Schiavone brought up FTR and Matt wasn’t thrilled about it. Matt felt like he was being ribbed and asked for Schiavone’s phone which he promptly destroyed. He felt bad and threw money at Schiavone before we went to another commercial break.
Brodie Lee defeated Orange Cassidy via Pinfall to retain the TNT Championship
Of course The Dark Order were much closer to the ring in this match compared to Evil Uno’s. Anytime Orang Cassidy was thrown to the outside, The Dark Order attacked him while the ref wasn’t looking. After returning from picture in picture, it seemed like Cassidy was finished. Cassidy, ever so smart, played possum and was able to get a roll up for a 2 count. This finally led to some offense for Cassidy that unfortunately didn’t last.
After the match the lights went out. When they came back on CODY’S music played! He was sporting a new look, an all black suit and back to his dark hair. John Silver took a run at Cody and was promptly tossed aside.
Once in the ring, Cody beat up Five and then hit him with a Cutter. Cody absolutely destroyed Five, who had no help as Brodie Lee was no where in sight. We went to commercial after watching Cody put Five in the figure four.
Back from commercial we went backstage where Brodie Lee scared off Dasha. Lee was not happy at how Cody returned. He screamed about Cody taking off five weeks all while he was there putting in work and being undeniable.
Lee then yelled about Cody sending another man to do his work. He asked if Cody saw what he did to Dustin or what Anna Jay did to Brandi. He questioned what kind of man Cody was when his wife posts “Instagram thirst traps” and then said Cody was a coward.
He then called on Silver to give him something, a dog collar. Lee said Cody could run for a long time, but sooner or later he would cut him down. He said he would take the dog collar and wrap it around his neck (with the “god forsaken tattoo”). No where to run and no where to hide. Lee then gave Cody one week to respond…
Back at ringside, Private Party and Matt Hardy made their way to the ring. Hardy got on the mic and said he has been replaying the attack from last week over and over. He said he had a heated confrontation with MJF, a discussion with Brodie Lee about the TNT Championship, and of course his hatred of the Inner Circle.
All Hardy can remember of last week is the person who attacked him was wearing a face covering and he thought he was hit with steel, a bat, or a pipe. Then later that night, Chris Jericho and Jake Hager were seen with a bat. That makes Jericho Hardy’s prime suspect. Jericho comes out and mocks Hardy’s birthday and then brings up how Hardy put Sammy Guevara out of AEW after their match and who knows when he’s coming back… Which was actually right now.
Sammy runs out and gives Jericho a hug. Jericho says Hardy should know better than Jericho just taking him out with a bat. Cassidy then takes the mic and says he’s issues Jericho a challenge, one-on-one, next week. Cassidy says nobody expect him to win, but what if a 21-year old beats the legendary Jericho? “What if I make Chris Jericho my Le Champion bitch!”
Tony Schiavone interviews FTR and Tully Blanchard in the ring. Tully thanks the fans and says he wants to change the rules. He has made a 20 minute time limit for FTR’s matches and they get to pick the opponents. Next week it will be FTR Vs. SCU, and if SCU can’t win within the time limit FTR get the win. Dax says the main event last week was a glorified backyard brawl.
Best Friends come out and Trent says what they did was war. And they might be banged up but they’ll have a 20 minute war tonight again. FTR agree but before it can start Cash says they can’t do this, they’re fighting Champions and it’s obvious Best Friends aren’t 100% tonight. Chuck Taylor calls FTR “weenies” and hugs Trent.
Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa def Ivelisse & Diamante
Rosa tosses Ivelisse out of the ring, meanwhile Diamante attempts a Code Red but Rosa stops it. Rosa lifts Diamante for a Death Valley Driver, then Shida hits the Falcon Arrow but Ivelisse stops it. Rosa knocks Ivelisse from the ring, then Shida hits Diamante with a knee for the merciful win.
Dasha is backstage with Jericho and she asks about the challenge from Kassidy. Jericho says he respects Kassidy and some day he’ll be a big star here. But it won’t be next week because Kassidy will face the million dollar man and the only shots he’ll get are from Le Champion.
MJF walks up and he says he’s disgusted by Kassidy’s challenge. Jericho says that means a lot coming from the undisputed, undefeated AEW World Champion, that means a lot. MJF says that means a lot coming from a legend like Jericho. The two of them say they’re both great, then they simultaneously ask why they called each other losers. MJF says he was talking about the limo drivers, and Jericho says he was talking about Tony Schiavone. They both mock Tony, then they say they’re both alright and walk off.
Jon Moxley def. Eddie Kingston—AEW World Championship
Eddie Kingston might be the biggest underdog to ever compete for the AEW World Championship in terms of who actually thinks he can win. Early in the night, Eddie Kingston marched to the ring and called out Jon Moxley. He labelled him a sellout and demanded he meet him in the ring. AEW cut to commercial break to gain control before the two got too physical early.
The two started slow in the main event as The Mad King taunted Moxley into bringing out his vicious side. The chops got stiffer until the AEW world champion could only find air with a clothesline.
Moxley could not connect on the Paradigm Shift early, but he managed to turn a close struggle into a piledriver for a nearfall. Kingston survived a suplex and hit a pair of backdrop drivers. Mox countered Kingston’s back fist into a sleeper hold that transitioned into a bulldog choke for the tap out.
Afterward, Pentagon and Fenix stormed the ring and tried to take out Moxley. Will Hobbs and Darby Allin made the save, but Ricky Starks attacked Allin from behind. The heels stood tall to end the show.
Excalibur noted that the last time we saw Moxley, his opponent (MJF) did not want to go to the outside with him, which was such a salient point for a match like this. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston had every bit of the chemistry that they did on paper.
