AEW Dynamite Premiere Pulls In More Viewers Than WWE NXT

AEW Dynamite wins the first rating battle between them and NXT.

The ratings for the first night of the Wednesday Night Wars are in.

According to Forbes, AEW Dynamite’s debut episode managed to get 1.4 million viewers on TNT, compared to NXT’s 891,000 viewers on the USA Network.

While it is early days, and the numbers in a few weeks will give us a better idea of where audiences are deciding to spend their time, this is an encouraging start for AEW. On the other hand, with the black and gold brand airing both full hours on USA for the first time, there could be cause for concern.

WWE were quick to congratulate their midweek adversaries, saying:

Congratulations to AEW on a successful premiere. The real winners of last night’s head-to-head telecasts of NXT on USA Network and AEW on TNT are the fans, who can expect Wednesday nights to be a competitive and wild ride as this is a marathon, not a one-night sprint.

While that statement may or may not have been made through gritted teeth, the one truth that is self-evident is that we fans are the winners – both shows put on a stellar wrestling product.
