Tonight features two championship matches. The Young Bucks defend their tag team championships against the Varsity Blonds; while Serena Deeb defends against Red Velvet.
After our intro video we got right into the action.
Christian Cage defeated Matt Sydal via Pinfall (Killswitch)
We know that both Cage and Sydal will be in the Casino Battle Royal at Double or Nothing. In our opening contest tonight though, Cage began by putting Sydal in a side headlock. Then a quick pin attempt by Cage and the two competitors stared each other down for a moment.
The action in this match was plenty, which with these two should have been accepted. Cage was in control of the match for the good majority of it. Sydal ducked a crossbody then missed a flip landing on his knees. Cage then hit a spear, which got a two count! Sydal went for a standing moonsault, but Cage got the knees up! Killswitch for the win!
After the match Ricky Starks came down to the ring. Starks said he is his own man and chooses were he is. He lets Cage know he is front and center; he will not be on the sidelines. Starks then seemed to call for the rest of Team Taz, who of course came up from behind Cage and Sydal. Hook took care of Sydal. Then Will Hobbs and Brian Cage went after Christian Cage.
Enter Hangman Adam Page. Page did his best to go after Brian Cage and Hobbs, but Hook came in to chop block him! In the end, Team Taz stood tall.
Backstage we heard from The Varsity Blonds and Julia Hart. Brian Pillman Jr said his father was the reason he stayed away from the business for so long. He actually credited The Young Bucks for giving him hope that being in the wrestling business could be done the right way.
Griff Garrison brought up the time in 2018 where he was asked to run The Young Bucks merch table. He was happy to do it and be able to pick their brains, but things are different now. Garrison said they need a reality check. That reality check will be The Varsity Blonds becoming AEW Tag Team Champions.
Then we took a commercial break.
Before their match we heard from Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley. Moxley said they have to be making some sort of dent in the tag team division. Then there was a bit about trying to decide if one has to throw a superkick to be invited to a superkick party. It was enjoyable.
Then we heard from the Acclaimed, who during their entrance rapped and mentioned Renee Paquette.
Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston defeated The Acclaimed via Pinfall (Wheel Barrow Paradigm Shift)
Moxley went right on the attack before the bell could even ring. Poor Bowens. Honestly Moxley and Kingston just looked like they were having a damn good time. Caster and Bowens were able to get a little control over Kingston, but it didn’t last too long. They did try to use their chains and boom box to win the match when the referee wasn’t looking, but that failed.
After the match we went backstage and saw Chris Jericho chatting with Dean Malenko. Alex Marvez tried to get a scoop on if Inner Circle would be accepting the Pinnacles challenge.
In the ring we heard from Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page on their up coming match with Sting and Darby Allin. Soon Sting and Allin made their presence known and went on the attack! Sting put Sky into the Scorpion Deathlock and made him tap! Soon Page and Sky got away, but the Dark Order came out to try and block their exit.
Then we took a commercial break.
Returning from break, we heard from The Pinnacle. They were at dinner and MJF said he found Chris Jericho funny. While The Inner Circle may be laughing now, he always gets the last laugh. Dax Harwood did not seem to be in a great mood. He said The Pinnacle should be going after all the belts, but they still have to deal with The Inner Circle!
As he spoke the waiter came up to refill wine glasses and Shawn Spears was not thrilled to be ignored. He actually went to beat the waiter up before Tull Blanchard talked him down a bit.
Hikaru Shida defeated Rebel (Not Reba) via Submission (Stretch Muffler)
Shida put on her own doctor’s glove and went to put the Lock Jaw submission on Rebel. Instead Baker got on the apron with the Women’s title! This distracted Shida who was hit from behind with a crutch by Rebel.
After the match Britt Baker attacked Shida! Then Baker stood tall above Shida holding the title.
Then backstage Kenny Omega and Don Callis went to see Orange Cassidy in the trainers room from last week. Callis called for the doctor to get Best Friends and Kris Statlander out of the room.
Then Callis and Omega should Orange footage from what happened to him, like he could forget. Omega put his EVP pants on and tried to tell Orange that they care about him and need Orange to be a mascot of AEW. Then they handed him a legal contract they wanted Orange to sign, which would take him out of the main event at Double or Nothing if he signed it. Orange just ripped the contract up!
Then we took another commercial break.
Back from break it was time to hear from The Inner Circle. Ortiz began to talk and he said talk is cheap and he wants to fight. Sammy Guevara agreed. He said as long as Inner Circle and Pinnacle work for AEW this is never going to end. Then he called the Pinnacle a bunch of clowns, especially last week. Guevara is in for Stadium Stampede.
Jake Hager said the consequences of not accepting the match are far worse. He doesn’t want to be cowards like The Pinnacle. Jericho said last week’s bubbly bath was designed to get the attention of The Pinnacle. He heard their challenge last week loud and clear and wonders if it worth it.
Then Jericho asked if Blood and Guts was worth it. He said he will never be the same after that night. Eventually his elbow will get better, but the mental image he has of being tossed off the cage will never go away.
The Inner Circle accepted the challenge for Stadium Stampede! They warned The Pinnacle that they would have to kill them to beat them…and they are still alive.
Tony Schiavone caught up with Jade Cargill, but they were interrupted by Mark Sterling. Sterling said he doesn’t want Jade to work for him, but he wants to work for her. Jade told him he shouldn’t have interrupted her and told him to exit stage left.
Serena Deeb defeated Red Velvet via Submission (Serenity Lock)
Deeb was on the offense right away. She threw her shirt at Red Velvet right at the bell and from their it was quick offense. Velvet was able to turn the match around for a slight moment with body shots and kicks in the corner. While Velvet did get in some good offense, it really did seem to be all Deeb.
After the match PAC was outside The Elites locker room. PAC said he was tired of getting robbed of opportunities in this company. Now that he has his match there is nothing anyone can do about it. At Double or Nothing, who bets against The Bastard.
To another commercial break we go.
Anthony Ogogo defeated Austin Gunn via Referee Stoppage
Pretty quick match. Gunn did hit a drop kick on Ogogo right away and tried to keep the offense as quick as possible. A body blow by Ogogo stopped Gunn in his tracks though. Ogogo had blood on him, which came from Gunns mouth.
The Young Bucks defeated The Varsity Blonds via Submission (Sharp Shooter)
Garrison and Nick Jackson began the match. After a big boot to the face from Garrison, Nick quickly tagged in his brother. The Varisty Blonds got a quick start over The Young Bucks and took over the ring! They even did the classic Young Bucks pose, which just pissed the Bucks off.
After a slight breather, the Bucks got their heads back into the match and began to take over. During a picture in picture moment, Nick even had time to show off his shoes to the camera. Nick was able to stop Pillman for going for their finisher. The Blonds were able to get a few pin attempts but in the end it wasn’t enough.
The Bucks did use a can of aerosol, which Julia Hart was able to stop the second time it was introduced. Although she got sprayed in the face instead of Pillman. In the end Pillman had no other choice but to tap out.
After the match Moxley and Kingston came into the ring. Don Callis and Brian Cutler quickly left the ring. Moxley and Kingston went right on the attack. SLEEPER HOLD PARTY! Kingston and Moxley put The Bucks to sleep and then stole their shoes!
That’s the show folks!
