AEW will crown their first Tag Team Champions, who will make history?
The show opens at an airport. Cody, Dustin Rhodes, and Tony Schiavone are getting off a plane. Cody and Tony then get into a car to head to the arena.
A recap is shown from last week featuring footage of what happened when after Moxley vs PAC ended. We saw Hangman Page telling PAC he wanted a rematch and Moxley finding out his match with Kenny Omega wouldn’t count in the record books. Needless to say, Mox left last week a very unhappy human.
Hangman Adam Page defeated Sammy Guevara via Pinfall (Buckshot Lariat)
This was a great opening match and really got the crowd into it. Page and Guevara were pretty back and forth for most of the match, but Page landed more hard hitting strikes.
After the match, Hangman cut a promo were he said things haven’t been going his way lately, but tonight’s win felt good. At Full Gear, he said he’s gonna do some cowboy shit and knock PAC’s head off.
Hikaru Shida defeated Shanna via Pinfall (Running Knee Strike)
This was Shida’s first match back in AEW since All Out and what a showing it was. Shida dominated most of this match, as Shanna’s offense mostly came during commercial breaks.
An odd video featuring Brandi Rhodes and Awesome Kong was aired. I can’t explain it even if I wanted too.
Back at ringside the Rock n Roll Express are out to be interviewed. Unfortunately the interview never took place as they were attacked by Santana and Ortiz (Proud n Powerful). The Young Bucks did eventually come out, but it was too late.
Cody and Tony are shown in the limo, still on their way to the arena. They talk a little bit about Dusty Rhodes and then about the upcoming match with Jericho. Tony says its okay they are making Jericho wait for their arrival, as the star always comes out last.
Best Friends and Orange Cassidy defeated Alex Reynolds, John Silver, and QT Marshall via Pinfall
This was just a fun match. Best Friends and Orange were introduced by Rick and Morty and even came out dressed like them. Orange Cassidy of course was a highlight of this one, flying to the outside with hands in his pocket taking out two opponents letting his partners secure the win.
The Contract signing then took place. As expected Chris Jericho was the first one out, he had to wait for Cody to get out of the limo. Not long after Cody sat down, he was presented with and signed the contract. Before Jericho signs, he grabs the mic and says this is the most important match of the year. Cody could get everything he has ever wanted, but Jericho will make sure he leaves a loser.
After signing the contract, Jericho offers his hand to Cody. They shake hands, but Sammy Guevara is shown on the tron. Sammy is out by Cody’s limo where Jake Hager is beating up Dustin Rhodes. By the time Cody gets there, the damage is done to Dustin.
The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) defeated The Hybrid 2 (Angelico and Jack Evans) an Kip Sabin
We all know The Elite is a well oiled machine by now and tonight was no different. This match did show that fans should not sleep on H2 or Kip Sabin because they are fantastic.
While the Young Bucks were celebrating their victory with fans, they were attacked by Proud n Powerful who were pretending to be fans.
The Librarian, Peter Avalon, accompanied by Leva Bates were giving a promo while on the way to the ring. Unfortunately for him, Jon Moxley met him there. Avalon received a Paradigm Shift for his troubles.
Moxley then told everyone about his displeasure with his upcoming match at Full Gear. Said AEW should be careful what they wish for because what he does to “their boy” is on their hands.
SCU defeated The Lucha Bros via Pinfall (Rollup)
In a surprising turn of events, SCU became the very first Tag Team Champions in AEW history. You can’t go wrong with these two teams facing off, it was an excellent match. Scorpio Sky was the one to get the pin and it just seemed so satisfying.
