AEW & NXT Ratings Drop | Wrestling News Update, June 11 2020

AEW SNEAKS ANOTHER WIN OVER WWE NXT

AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT were very close in the ratings, but both shows suffered a drop in viewership.

AEW Dynamite won by just 3,000 viewers clocking in at  677,000 viewers, down 7.3 percent from last week. This was the third lowest viewership total for the show on TNT. In the 18-49 demo, Dynamite finished 14th on cable with a 0.23 rating, down 20.7 percent.

NXT meanwhile averaged 673,000 viewers, down 5.9 percent from last week. In 18-49, the show averaged a 0.16 rating, down 20 percent.

WWE EMPLOYEE WITH COVID-19 RETURNS TO WORK

In early April, Fightful revealed that WWE have released a memo that there was a positive COVID-19 test within their staff. That staff member was removed from work and ordered to stay home.

Fightful have now reported the happy news that this employee fully recovered several weeks ago and has long since returned to work.

As far as we are aware, there has been no other positive COVID-19 tests in WWE, AEW or IMPACT in this fan-free era.

TWO TAG TEAM TITLE MATCHES MADE FOR NEXT WEEK’S NXT

Both the WWE Women’s and NXT Men’s tag team championships will be on the line next Wednesday night.

Whoever walks out of Sunday night’s triple threat match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title between The Iiconics, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross and champions Sasha Banks and Bayley will face the team of Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart on NXT next week.

In addition, Breezango will get their NXT Tag Team Title show against Imperium next Wednesday. Tyler Breeze and Fandango won their title match by beating The Undisputed Era and the duo of Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan last week.

TWO TITLE MATCHES ANNOUNCED FOR AEW DYNAMITE

In an interesting case of symmetry, AEW Dynamite will also have a pair of title matches next week.

The Natural Nightmates (Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall) will battle for the AEW Tag Team Titles against Champions Hangman Page and Kenny Omega.

In addition, Cody will defend his TNT Championship once again. He has defended it successfully against Jungle Boy and Marq Quen.

Also The Young Bucks will face Superbad Death Squad (Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc), MJF will go one-on-one with Billy and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent) will put their AEW Tag Title shot on the line against Le Sex Gods (Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara).

CODY VS JAKE HAGER SET FOR FYTER FEST

If Cody remains TNT Champion by the time Fyter Fest rolls around, he will have a stern test in the form of Jake Hager.

After Cody’s match with Marq Quen, Hager came out and immediately went after Cody’s manager Arn Anderson. A brawl then broke out between The Elite, Inner Circle, Private Party and Matt Hardy. Cody then made the match for Fyter Fest.

This year’s Fyter Fest will be a two week event that will take place on TNT during Dynamite’s normal time slot, running on July 1st and 8th.

BILLY GUNN UNABLE TO USE GUNN NAME

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, All Elite Wrestling wrestler and producer Billy Gunn is reportedly unable to use the “Gunn” last name in AEW.

Therefore, AEW refer to him as “Billy of The Gunn Club” and refer to the tag team as “Billy and Austin Gunn”.  the WWE Hall of Famer has lost his last name due to WWE lawyers getting involved.

TAYLOR WILDE TEASES IMPACT WRESTLING RETURN

Former Impact Knockouts Champion Taylor Wilde has ramped up speculation that she is set to return to the company.

Wilde began the speculation this week when she tweeted fan art from her time in TNA, captioning it with, “Stay tuned……”

Wilde then re-tweeted a photo of she and Sarah Stock with the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Titles and wrote;

“Sounds like the roster needs some OG’s @SSDarkAngel
