AEW & NXT Ratings Rise | Wrestling News Update, May 28, 2020

With injury updates on Britt Baker and Marq Quen, as well as NXT and AEW’s latest ratings; Matty Deller brings you the Wrestling News Update.

AEW AND NXT BOTH HAVE RATINGS BOOST

After Double or Nothing, last night’s AEW Dynamite on TNT averaged 827,000 viewers, up 18 percent from last week and the biggest audience this show has had since the first closed-set taping on March 18th.

In the 18-49 demo, Dynamite finished fourth on cable with a 0.32 rating, up 23.1 percent from last week.

NXT was also up significantly, averaging 731,000 viewers. This is up 23.5 percent from last week. This was their biggest audience in three months.

In 18-49, NXT was up 46.2 percent, averaging a 0.19 rating.

NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH MADE FOR TAKEOVER

NXT’s Instagram account have confirmed that Keith Lee will defend his North American Championship against Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: In Your House.

This comes off the back of Lee and Mia Yim fueding with Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano is recent weeks.

PRIME TARGET FEATURE, BIG MATCHES MADE FOR NEXT WEEK’S NXT

On the final NXT before TakeOver: In Your House, Candice LeRae will face Mia Yim – once again stemming from the feud these two are having alongside Keith Lee and Johnny Gargano.

Also, we will have the finals of the Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament as Drake Maverick will face El Hijo De Fantasma.

In addition, there will be two ‘Prime Target’ features focusing on the two main events for TakeOver, Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship and Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Championship.

CHELSEA GREEN FIRES ROBERT STONE

During a post-show video with McKenzie Mitchell after this week’s WWE NXT episode went off the air, Chelsea Green fired her manager Robert Stone.

Mitchell asked Green how sweet the win was, but Green passed the microphone to Stone to answer. Chelsea said she’s as hot as she’s ever been coming out of this week’s show, and that’s why she’s done with Stone.

Robert Stone thought she was kidding, but she since has confirmed the split on social media.

Chelsea Green and Robert Stone had only been on TV together for a few months.

F.T.R DEBUTS FOR ALL ELITE WRESTLING

BRITT BAKER INJURY UPDATE

On last night’s AEW Dynamite, Britt Baker divulged on how long she will be out for due to her injury.

Baker sustained a partial LCL tear, an interior tibia fracture, and a small tendon tear on last week’s Dynamite and she noted she’ll be back at All Out, which takes place on September 5th.

MARQ QUEN INJURY UPDATE

During a six-man tag on last night’s Dynamite, Marq Quen from Private Party landed awkwardly on a dive and was immediately attended to by a ringside physician.

However, it appears there is nothing to fear as according to PWInsider, the injury that Marq Quen of Private Party suffered last night on Dynamite was a worked injury. It was used as a way to get Matt Hardy out of the ringside area ot lead to The Butcher and The Blade’s attack on The Young Bucks.

SEVERAL MATCHES MADE FOR NEXT WEEK’S DYNAMITE

A number of matches have already been made for next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Chris Jericho will take on Colt Cabana, stemming from Jericho’s confrontation with Mike Tyson. In a video posted to AEW’s social media channels, Chris Jericho got into a scuffle with Colt Cabana saying he held him back as he was about to punch Tyson.

In addition, Cody will make his first defence of the TNT Championship, as he will face the winner of this weeks battle royal in Jungle Boy.

We will also have an AEW Tag Team Championship match, as Hangman Page and Kenny Omega will face Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian for the belts. Sabian and Havoc earned this shot by beating S.C.U last night.

IMPACT TV TAPINGS TO HELD THIS WEEK

 PWInsider has confirmed that Impact Wrestling is scheduled to tape another set of TV tapings in Nashville, Tennessee later this week, after Several Impact talents indicated on social media today that they were going “back to work”.

Impact last held tapings at Skyline Studios in Nashville in early April, taping two months worth of TV. You would assume that they will be doing the same this time around.

IMPACT Women’s Champion Jordynne Grace will be appearing at these tapings, after missing the last set. Is it unsure if IMPACT World Champion Tessa Blanchard will attend these tapings, after missing the last ones as well due to COVID-19.

DARK SIDE OF THE RING BEST PERFORMING VICE TV SERIES EVER

According to Variety. Dark Side Of The Ring  is now the best-performing series in the history of Vice TV.

The series as a whole has averaged 423,000 viewers per episode with 242,000 in the key adults 18-49 demographic, according to Live+3 data for both seasons from Nielsen. 

These are the highest marks in both measures for an original series since Vice TV launched back in 2016. The season two finale on the death of Owen Hart, which premiered on May 19, broke the previous Live+3 viewership and key demographic records for Vice TV, bringing in 626,000 viewers with 390,000 of those in the key adults 18-49 demo.
