AEW: “Where Are They Now?” | AEW Dynamite Debut – October 2nd 2019

A little over 2 years ago, All Elite Wrestling presented their first ever show – Dynamite, from the sold-out Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Live pro wrestling made its triumphant return to the TNT Network with the Dynamite debut episode of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite!

Sammy Guevara vs Cody (With Brandi Rhodes)

The first match in the history of Dynamite, and on this debut Dynamite too! The story behind this match, is that Cody who was the number one contender at this point would give Sammy the Number one contendership if Sammy could beat him, as they were just starting out, there wasn’t much in the way of other stories, though Sammy did win at fight for the fallen B/R Live special that aired.

Sammy Guevara

Sammy (Spoilers) joined up with Chris Jericho and others mentioned later to form the Inner Circle faction, and for the better part of a year, were THE heel faction to watch out for, in 2020 he did have a disastrous feud with Matt Hardy, as the feud seemed cursed from start to finish.

Eventually however, Sammy and his faction turned face, having a faction v faction feud against a group called The Pinnacle. Shortly after that feud ended, Sammy began wrestling as a singles star, eventually feuding with a beating AEW Star Miro to become the 5th unique AEW TNT Champion and 6th overall.

Cody (Rhodes)

Cody would have numerous feuds in AEW, he would lose the title match against Jericho and as part of the stipulation can never challenge for the title again. Still Cody kept busy, having a great feuds with the likes of MJF, Brodie Lee and Darby Allin, while also winning the TNT Title twice.

Cody also keeps himself busy, appearing on “The Go Big Show” and starring in his own reality show with his Wife called “Rhodes to the Top.” Recently Cody has been feuding with Malakai Black, winning their 3rd encounter but the feud is seemingly carrying on.

Brandi Rhodes

Brandi is in the reality show mentioned above and both are a parent to a daughter called Liberty. In the Ring Brandi hasn’t done as much as Cody, she was the leader of the abysmal Nightmare collective and when that didn’t work, she went back to being Cody’s Manager, there were plans for her to feud with Jade Cargill, but those plans got shelved when Brandi was expecting.

She has since returned to Codys corner, though has yet to make a wrestling return.

MJF vs Brandon Cutler

There was no story to this match, they just needed to showcase MJF to a national audience on this debut Dynamite A match he easily won. Though Cutler did get chances to shine.

MJF is now one of the biggest heels in the company, though he has yet to win any gold, that seems a given at this juncture, beating Cody in his feud, having a feud with the then world champion Jon Moxley, having great matches against Jungle Boy and then joining up with, then betraying ‘The Inner Circle’ to form his own faction ‘The Pinnacle’.

Now, MJF is feuding with Darby Allin, which seems to be leading to a match at ‘Full Gear 2021’ in November.

Brandon Cutler

Brandon has been a Jobber for most of his run, primarily appearing on dark, though he did eventually team up with, break up and feud with Peter Avalon, which culminated in Brandon getting his first ever win.

After this, Brandon did win some more matches on Dark against jobbers, though he has since joined with ‘The Super Elite’ acting as the fodder for the babyfaces to walk over, or as the foil as he cold sprays the faces allowing his team to get the win.

Hangman Adam Page vs PAC

The story behind this match was quite unusual, they were supposed to have a match at the inaugural Double or Nothing back in May, but the match was cancelled (Pac was DragonGate’s top champion at the time, and apparently DragonGate didn’t want him to lose on this Dynamite Debut) so they both had a match in Wrestle Gate Pro instead, that ended in a DQ, so after Hangman had lost his title match at All Out (Vs. Omega) and with PAC finally able to compete. They had a match here which PAC won with a Brutalizer.

PAC is still with the company, although PAC spent much of 2020 out of action as COVID prevented him from travelling back and forth between England and the U.S due to the quarantine rules at the time, but when he finally returned, he reformed his trios team with the Lucha brothers once again being Death Triangle and as recently as May was challenging Omega for title in a triple threat which he lost.

Hangman Adam Page

It’s hard to know how much of Adam’s current push to super stardom was intended, after losing this match he would wrestle PAC, two more times in singles action, going 50/50 with him, after this he would team with Kenny Omega and eventually pick up the tag team titles, then feud with The Young Bucks among various other teams, before they lost titles to FTR at All Out 2020 and breaking up! Quite the backstory after this Dynamite Debut. After this Hangman and Omega would then wrestle at Full Gear 2021 in a tournament final to decide Moxley’s next opponent, which Omega won, Then hangman would spend time wrestling on and off with his friends in the Dark Order.

Now Hangman is in a major feud with Omega and the rest of the super elite and now has a chip to cash in at some point in the future.

AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Nyla Rose vs Riho

A Championship Match on this Debut Dynamite. Both Riho and Nyla won a match each, Riho’s being a singles match against Hikaru Shida, and Nyla’s being a battle royal match. Both women fought very hard in the match itself, with Riho eventually pinning Nyla after a couple of running knees.

After winning the title, she would go on to have numerous matches, against Britt, Emi Sakura and Kris Statlander. Before she eventually lost the title to Nyla in a rematch on 12 February 2020. After this, unfortunately Riho was stuck in Japan due to the Pandemic. Eventually Riho was able to Return and fought in the American side of the Womens world title eliminator tournament, which she lost at the semi finals.

She later faced Serena Deeb for the NWA Womens Title in a losing effort. She hasn’t appeared on AEW TV recently, having recently gone to Japan to wrestle at TJPW’s Wrestle Princess 2 event.

Nyla Rose

After beating Riho in February, She would successfully defend the title against Kris Statlander at Revolution 2020, after which she would then lose to Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing 2020 ending her reign at 101 days.

After which she would partner up with Vickie Guerrero and would have another match against Shida which she lost again. After this she spent a ton of time wrestling on Dark. Nyla recently had another women’s title match, against Britt Baker in another losing effort.

Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks vs Chris Jericho and Santana and Ortiz

The match history was based on the fact that Jericho beat Omega at DoN, while Santana and Ortiz beat down the Young Bucks at All Out 2019. The match featured Jon Moxley charging Kenny omega to slam him head first into a glass table, something they replay plenty of times on highlight reels! A nice moment on this debut Dynamite. The match ended with Jericho winning with a Judas Effect

Chris Jericho,

Founding the Inner Circle that night made Jericho and his team a force to be reckoned with. Later he would have a great match at Full Gear against Cody before losing the title to John Moxley at Revolution.

After this he would go on to have several feuds, recently against MJF which after losing twice eventually beat MJF at All out 2021, now Jericho is feuding against the Men of the year (Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky) and Dan Lamberts American Top Team.

Santana and Ortiz

Santana and Ortiz have not done a ton in their time in AEW but what they have done has been impressive, having an excellent parking lot brawl against The Best Friends. Before feuding with the Pinnacle as part of the Inner Circle.

Recently they have been feuding against FTR, though one of their matches didn’t end well at all.

Kenny Omega

Kenny since then, things have changed, in 2020 he won the tag titles as mentioned, then abandoned Hangman to go the singles route, eventually he would win the title off Jon Moxley with crafty interference from Don Callis.

Since then, he’s been defending the title against all comers, Jon Moxley, Pac, Orange Cassidy and Christian. While being in charge of the Super Elite.

The Young Bucks

In 2020, The Young bucks kept having fantastic matches, before beating FTR at Full Gear 2020, eventually they turned heel betraying Jon Moxley in a six man tag, to side with Kenny and the Good brothers to further strengthen The Elite.

They would go onto hold the titles for 9 months before losing the titles to the Lucha Brothers at All Out 2021.
