Double Or Nothing 2 Announced | Wrestling News Update, February 5th 2020

WWE CONFIRMS TWO NEW SIGNINGS

On last night’s Backstage, WWE confirmed the addition of both Killer Kross and Timothy Thatcher to their roster.

Rumours of both stars joining WWE have been circulating over the last few weeks. Dave Meltzer went into further detail in the Wrestling Observer, taking about how Kross may be fast tracked, but this could mean any one of a number of things.

WWE had the following to say about the two wrestlers on their website:

Timothy Thatcher is a world-renowned mat wrestler widely regarded as one of the toughest grapplers inside the squared circle, and has competed against the likes of Drew McIntyre, NXT North American Champion Keith Lee and Matt Riddle, among others. Thatcher is a former EVOLVE Champion and WXW Unified World Champion. He’s also been a frequent tag team partner of NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER.

Kevin Kesar, better known as Killer Kross, is a towering competitor at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, and has a background in catch wrestling and sambo. Kesar has competed in India and Mexico, and was recognized as a rising star of the squared circle by the revered Cauliflower Alley Club in 2018.

AEW ANNOUNCE DATE AND LOCATION FOR DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2

Just announced, AEW will be returning to the MGM Grand on 23rd of May for Double or Nothing 2.

While this is the only information given at this point, Jon Moxley is the only wrestler displayed on the graphic.

In 2019 the event sold out in around 30 minutes, with most of the 11,000 tickets avalible being sold during the pre sale. This year’s event has alot to live up to, with the first Double or Nothing being both critically aclaimed, and viewed as the company’s first real show.

CM PUNK AND CHARLOTTE TO APPEAR ON BACKSTAGE NEXT WEEK

Confirmed on last night’s episode, WWE Backstage next week will host both CM Punk and Charlotte Flair.

So far Punk has appeared on Backstage once a month since its inception. This, however, will be Charlotte’s first time on the show. Charlotte won the Royal Rumble match and gets to pick the title that she wants to challenge for. She is booked to appear on tongiht’s episode of NXT, where she’ll respond to NXT Champion, Rhea Ripley’s challenge.

MIKE AND MARIA KANELLIS WELCOME SECOND CHILD

It was announced today that Maria and Mike Kanellis have had their second child.

Maria wrote the following announcing the birth:

Carver Mars Bennett arrived yesterday 2/3/2020 at 3:07pm. 8 pounds and 20 and 1/2 inches. We are so in love!!

This is the couple’s second child, after the birth of Fredrica “Freddie” Moon Bennett in April of 2018.

Maria’s pregnancy was actually used in WWE storylines, with Maria questioning if Mike was the actual father of her child, this was eventually dropped. What was strange, was the fact that it came so soon after the couple signed new five year deals with the company in June.

WWE ABANDONS EC3 TRADEMARK

WWE has failed to renew its application for the EC3 trademark.

The company originally filed for the trademark in June 2019, but it was refused. Interestingly, the reason the request was refused turned out to be that EC3 himself already held the trademark.

EC3 is currently on the RAW roster, but last competed on the red brand in September of last year. That match was a 1 minute 45 second squash defeat to Rusev. His appearence before that was in May of 2019.

TOTAL BELLAS SEASON FIVE PREMIERE DATE ANNOUNCED

Earlier today the news broke of when the new season of total Bellas would begin.

Starting on April 9th, the show will once again focus on the lives of Nikki and Brie. This season will focus on Nikki and Artem Chigvintsev’s relationship, along side struggles Brie and Daniel have. The season is also set to include the twins both being pregnant at the same time too.

MLW TALKING WITH AMAZON REGARDING STREAMING

It has been reported that MLW have been in talks with Amazon regarding streaming.

The company is looking for a partner to stream pay per views it is assumed. MLW has only just signed with ICM Partners, a deal which promises new streaming and television possibilities. At the moment the company uses beIN SPORTS to broadcast its weekly Fusion show.

According to Fightful’s sources, the company is in talks with a number of big players. How much of this is true is unknown of course, but it telling that the first name to come out is Amazon.

DAVEY BOY SMITH JR. HEADING BACK TO JAPAN

In an interview with WrestlingInc, Smith revealed that there was already plans for his return to Japan, saying:

I’ll just leave this little tidbit for the fans: I will be returning to Japan soon. I can’t divulge for what company but I will be back soon,” stated Smith. “For the fans in Japan, don’t worry, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith Jr. will be back soon and I will be better and stronger than ever. I look forward to coming back to The Land of the Rising Sun but at this point I can’t say who it’s for or what I’m doing. But I will be back soon.

MLW AND AAA TO CO PROMOTE MARCH SHOW

Announced today, MLW and AAA will be putting on a co-promoted show on the 13th of March. The show, which will take place at the Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez in Tijuana, Mexico, is set to the the first coming from the new relationship between the two organisation.

The partnership between AAA and MLW was announced in November of last year. MLW announced their partnership with Dragon Gate of Japan on this past weekend.
