Hogan On SmackDown | Wrestling News Update, January 14th 2020

With Hulk Hogan’s appearance on tonight’s SmackDown, and news of a possible location change for the next Saudi Arabian show; Matt Booker brings you the Wrestling News Update.

MATT HARDY VS. RANDY ORTON ON RAW

WWE has announced that Matt Hardy will face Randy Orton on this Monday’s episode of RAW.

The announcement has surprised many, with last Monday seeming a fitting end to Hardy’s time with WWE. Following the episode, Hardy even tweeted, simply saying “goodbye.”

It seems that Matt’s time with the WWE isn’t quite over, however. On last week’s episode, Hardy took a beating from Randy Orton with a chair, after Matt confronted Randy regarding his recent attack on Edge.

Monday night’s match is set to be a no holds barred match, with the WWE saying the following on their website:

This past Monday on Raw, Randy Orton subjected Matt Hardy to the same brutal Con-Chair-To that sent Edge out of Raw on a stretcher. Now, Hardy is coming for payback.

In the wake of Orton’s heinous attack, the former Raw Tag Team Champion is now slated to battle The Apex Predator in a No Holds Barred Match, placing Orton directly on a collision course with his most recent victim — to say nothing of a Superstar who refuses to take the abuse lying down. After all, Hardy is as much a trailblazer as Edge, and his history is almost completely entwined with that of The Rated-R Superstar. Then again, Randy Orton seems to take a particular delight in destroying legends these days. He’ll be more than happy to do it again.

HULK HOGAN APPEARING ON TONIGHT’S SMACKDOWN

WWE has announced that Hulk Hogan will be at tonight’s SmackDown show.

WWE says Hogan is there to “address SmackDown ahead of nWo’s Hall of Fame induction”. This will be Hogan’s second HoF induction, following his 2005 induction by Sylvester Stallone. This will be the second induction for all the nWo members. Hall was inducted in 2014 by Kevin Nash, and Nash himself being inducted in 2015 by Shawn Michaels. X-Pac was inducted last year as part of D-Generation X.

WWE SUPER SHOWDOWN POSSIBLY CHANGING LOCATION

Promotional material recently released for the upcoming WWE Super ShowDown may have revealed. The event will be held on the 28th of February, but it seems it will now be held at the Mohammed Abdu Stage in Riyadh. It was supposed to be held at the King Fahd Stadium, as all other WWE Saudi Arabian events have been. This is seen as a problem for fans, the two venues are only 3 miles apart.

While it isn’t known why the venue has changed, WrestleTalk has reported that the new venue has a capacity of 22,000, much less than the previous stadium, which could hold 68,725.

OSPREAY WINS BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

Earlier this evening Will Ospreay defeated Zack Sabre Jr. to become the new RevPro British Heavyweight Champion.

The match took place at High Stakes at York Hall, London. Ospreay has wrestled for RevPro since 2013, claiming the tag team titles once with Paul Robinson in 2013, and the Cruiserweight title twice, first in 2014, and again in 2016.
