WWE REPORTEDLY TRIED TO BUY PRO WRESTLING NOAH

Dave Meltzer has spoken about the WWE’s plans to expand into Japan and has claimed that the company tried to purchase Pro Wrestling NOAH.

Rumours have swirled for a while about WWE’s desire to expand their operation into Japan, setting up an NXT Japan brand. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave confirmed that officials from WWE were actively working on the project. Apparently, WWE has decided to purchase an existing Japanese company and use it as a foundation for NXT Japan. This is in contrast to the way WWE started in the UK, building their own promotion from scratch.

Dave said that the company had spoken to a number of organisations, while a few were still up in the air, Pro Wrestling NOAH had walked away when approached.

BACKSTAGE GOSSIP ON ERIC BISCHOFF’S NEWEST WWE DEPARTURE

Yesterday it was announced that Eric Bischoff had been replaced as head of creative on SmackDown. As of yet no official reason has been given for Eric’s sudden departure, so soon after he had returned to the company.

According to F4Wonline, the decision to fire Eric was only reached early yesterday morning, with him being informed after a creative meeting. Dave Meltzer tweeted that FOX wanted Heyman in charge of SmackDown, but there hasn’t been any indication that they prompted the change. Bruce Prichard has been promoted to head of SmackDown creative. This wouldn’t be a huge change for Bruce or for SmackDown, it was Bruce’s role to help Eric get up to speed and help him run the shows after he rejoined the company.

On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez said that some in the company saw Eric’s termination coming. According to Bryan Eric was blamed for a decline in moral. Apparently many didn’t enjoy working with Eric these past few weeks, citing issues like finding it hard to locate Eric at times, and Eric frequently disappearing. No sources were given for the rumours.

It was also noted that when Eric has hired, many considered it to be tempory, claiming that Eric would be used as a scapegoat the moment something went wrong. With the decline in SmackDown’s viewing figures, some are linking the two events.

Karel, who is the former general manager of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) dating back to the early 1990’s; as well as the founder of the Urban Wrestling Federation, and current broadcast and digital distributor of numerous wrestling brands, has said, “Combat Zone Wrestling is the reincarnation of Extreme Championship Wrestling – on a far greater, and much more intensive basis.”
