Earlier today representatives of NJPW, Stardom, Pro Wrestling Noah, All Japan Pro, DDT, Diana, and Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling met with Hiroshi Hase, Japanese Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to discuss the current Covid-19 pandemic and how it has affected the wrestling industry.
The main points of the meeting were:
- Asking that wrestling promotion be allowed to operate once again, but without fans present.
- Asking for testing kits for wrestlers and staff
- Asking for compensation for wrestlers who are unable to work, both those contracted and those who are independent
NJPW released a statement on their website detailing their requests. Please click here to see it. Please see below for part of the statement:
The current Novel Coronavirus pandemic has seriously affected the entire professional wrestling industry, including but not limited to Bushiroad Group members New Japan Pro-Wrestling and STARDOM.
Professional wrestling is a contact sport, and even matches without the public present is a dangerous undertaking in the current climate. We can not allow the flame of professional wrestling that has burned brightly in this country for over half a century to be exterminated.
There request is unlikely to fall of deaf ears, the minister they met with was Hiroshi Hase, former four-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
