February is suppose to be the month of love of romance, but instead, it just got a lot more colder as the hearts of music fans were broken when Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, known as “Daft Punk” put out a video this morning titled “Epilogue” announcing the duos breakup.
While the video may be hard to consume for the fans of Daft Punk, there is no denying the hard work and beauty of the short film that was shot for their final farewell. It starts off with both members walking through a desert with a classic eighties film vibe. It could also be a deserted planet with the look and influence that their space helmets give off in the video. There is no opening monologue, no interaction or words. Just the two walking with one at a much slower pace.
Finally the two members face each other and the one who stops, takes off his legendary jumpsuit with a set of controls on his back. While you can see the scenic atmosphere in the reflection of the space helmets, it takes a wild turn when the second member flips a switch on the panel of his partners jumpsuit and a countdown begins. At the end of the countdown the second member just watches as his partner explodes. As oddly as it sounds, it was beautiful, yet sad as “1993-2021” appeared after the slowed down shots of the member exploding into the air.
Daft Punk reached global success and won six Grammy Awards over the years. The group launched several classic and international hits like “Get Lucky,” “Lose Yourself to Dance,” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” just to name a few. But they did more then just make hits, Daft Punk influenced and collaborated with countless artists such as Kanye West, The Weeknd, Pharell and Deadmau5.
