Jeff Hardy Announces Return | Wrestling News Update, March 4, 2020

With news on Jeff Hardy’s return and JBL’s induction into the Hall of Fame, Matt Booker brings you the Wrestling News Update.

 

JEFF HARDY CLEARED TO RETURN

On yesterday’s episode of WWE Backstage, Jeff Hardy revealed that he has been cleared to return to the ring for some time. In a candid interview, Jeff spoke about his recovery following his DWI charge last year and his recovery from knee surgery.

Jeff injured his knee in April 2019. At the time it was reported that he required surgery, and the prognosis was that he would be out for up to nine months. The surgery was completed in May and deemed a success at the time. 

During recovery, Jeff was arrested for driving while impaired in October.  He went on to reveal that he had checked himself into in-patient rehab following the event, he to refer to that decision one of the best things he had ever done for himself. 

Jeff has attended the last two SmackDown tapings, he said that he is just waiting for the right creative point to rejoin the on-screen action.

JBL TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE WWE HALL OF FAME

TAG TEAM REMATCH SET FOR SMACKDOWN

WWE has announced that Friday’s episode of SmackDown will also feature Sasha Banks and Bayley taking on Naomi and Lacey Evans in a repeat of last weeks episode.

On last week’s SmackDown, Naomi and Bayley were set for singles competition before Sasha Banks got involved. Although Bayley lost via disqualification, the pair looked to get the last laugh, starting to beat down Naomi two on one. Lacey Evan ran down to make the save and an impromptu tag match was made. 

Last week Naomi pick up the win, pinning SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley in the process.

This Friday’s episode of SmackDown is the last before Elimination Chamber. At present, the only women’s match on the card is the Elimination Chamber match itself. All of the women taking part in the pay per view match are from the RAW brand. 

AEW ANNOUNCE PAC VS. CHUCK TAYLOR FOR TONIGHT

AEW has announced that PAC will face Chuck Taylor tonight on AEW Dynamite.

This will be Chuck’s first singles match for the promotion since joining. The match comes off the back of Orange Cassidy vs. PAC at AEW Revolution. At the pay per view, PAC managed to make Cassidy tap out in a very well-received match.

YUJI NAGATA ANNOUNCED FOR ROH PURE EXCELLENCE

The Japanese veteran wrestler will be taking part in the Pure title tournament ROH announced today.

Nagata has become the tenth entrant in the tournament, joining the following stars:

  • Doug Williams
  • Jonathan Gresham
  • Alex Shelley
  • Rocky Romero
  • Mark Haskins
  • Slex
  • Tracy Williams
  • Marty Scurll
  • Fred Yehi

Five more entrants will be announced, completing the field of sixteen. First-round matches start at Pure Excellence Night 1 on the April 10. The first-round will conclude on April 11 at Pure Excellence Night 2. Quarterfinals will be held at ROH Battlestarr in New York, New York. This is the tournament to crown the first Pure Champion since 2006.

EL TORITO JOINS MLW

MLW announced today that Mascarita Sagrada would be making his debut with the company next month.

Sagrada was known an El Torito in WWE, where he worked extensively with Los Matadores from his first match with the company in 2013, through to his last match in 2016. Since leaving the WWE he has worked the independent circuit, working all over the Americas.

TRISH STRATUS TO TAKE PART IN AN INSIDE THE ROPES EVENT

Announced earlier today, seven time women’s champion, and WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus will be taking part in an inside the ropes event next month.

From the announcement all we know is that the event will take place on April 20, and be held in London. The event is meant to be in celebration of her twenty years in the ring. From the InsideTheRopes website:

Trish debuted in WWE in 2000 as the blonde bombshell manager of T & A (Test and Albert) before moving on to a successful career in the ring. Capturing the WWE Women’s Championship on 7 different occasions and being part of the first ever women’s Monday Night Raw main event with Lita, before being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2013.

More recently Trish faced Charlotte Flair at Summer Slam 2019 in front of a sold out crowd in her hometown of Toronto.
