FOUR MATCHES ADDED TO HELL IN A CELL

Four new matches were announced for the PPV during the pre-Hell in a Cell edition of WWE Now, bringing the card up to eight.

Those matches are:

  • The Viking Raiders and a mystery partner vs. The O.C. (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson)
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross defending against Asuka & Kairi Sane
  • Chad Gable vs. King Corbin
  • Lacey Evans vs. Natalya (pre-show)

It was also announced that Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan vs. Erick Rowan & Luke Harper will now be a tornado tag match.

DETAILS ON CAIN’S DEAL WITH WWE

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, more details were given on the relationship between former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez and WWE.

Importantly, the process wasn’t as smooth as it should have been, as late as Monday WWE were threatening to withdraw, furious that Cain’s signing had been leaked. Dave Meltzer speculated that Cain was now signed to WWE, citing the fact that he wouldn’t have been placed in such a high-level spot as he had unless the company was confident that he wasn’t going anywhere. Dave did reveal that Cain has also recently been in talks with both AEW and NJPW.

Cain recently informed the UFC and USADA that he was withdrawing from their testing pool. This move prevents him from returning to active MMA competition quickly and effectively retires his from MMA.

In August this year, Cain debuted for AAA in Mexico City. He competed wearing a Lucha Libre mask and used a number of high flying moves in his match. WWE is rumoured not to be looking for this in his character, but to see him return to his MMA roots as he enters into a programme with current WWE Champion, Brock Lesner.

Brock and Cain met in 2010 inside the UFC’s octagon. In the encounter Cain was able to demonstrate his dominant striking, finishing the fight inside the first round.

PRELIMINARY SMACKDOWN RATINGS IN

Although the final ratings won’t be released until Monday, the preliminary numbers for the debut FOX show make for very good reading for Vince and co.

SmackDown averaged 3.9 million viewers across the show. This is massively up from the week before’s 2.6 viewers and will help ease the nerves at FOX. The show peaked at the start, with many tuning in to see the Rock, Becky Lynch and Baron Corbin open the show. The show’s actual peak viewing figure happened during this period and was a massive 4.2 million.

According to strictly the viewing figures, the top segment of the night was the Shane McMahon, Kevin Owens ladder match, with Brock squashing Kofi and Cain’s debut being the second-best segment.

MICKIE JAMES OPENS UP ON COMMENTARY ROLE

Mickie James was part of the commentary team for last week’s Main Event show, working alongside Vic Joseph and Dio Maddin. In a lengthy post on mickiejames.com the star spoke about what the experience was like:

“I was surprised WWE offered me the opportunity but very excited to jump on board,” James said. “It’s good to be back on the road with the crew and to call matches of Superstars you don’t always get to see on the main broadcasts.”

James has been held up, healing from surgery on a torn ACL. The injury occurred on June 1st. While she is recovering well, her return to the ring is still many weeks off.

“As odd as it sounds, because I’ve only been off the road for a couple months, I feel like I’m missing out on so much,” she said. “This gives me the opportunity to scout the Superstars who are going to be waiting to battle me when I’m healed up.”

Although both Dio and Vic have been called up to host RAW, Mickie praised both for the help they had given her during her debut:

“I’ve done a few guest commentary spots, but this was so different. I’m thankful for my team (Vic and Dio) to help dip my toes on a whole different side of the spectrum. They’re so incredibly talented and I can’t wait to watch them on Raw. I’m super excited about this. I think it can aid in my growth as a superstar in the company. You never stop learning in this business. I’ve always wanted to know more and really delve into the other side of the business. This is giving me a chance to hopefully really shine in a whole different capacity.”

HUGE MATCH ANNOUNCED FOR THE CRASH’S EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

The Lucha Brothers will be in action against Rush and Dragon Lee of the Munoz family at The Crash’s 8th-anniversary show in November.

The Crash announced at their show last night that Rush and Dragon Lee would meet the Luch Bros on the 1st of November. However, Rush later said that it could be any member of the Munoz family, this would also include their father, Bestia del Ring.

What makes this interesting is that this follows Lee and RUSH’s controversial departures from CMLL.

Jonathan Gresham and CIMA were also announced for the anniversary show.
