SCOTT VS. GARZA SET FOR NXT PRE-SHOW

Earlier today WWE announced that Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott would meet Angel Garza this evening on the NXT TakeOver: WarGames pre-show.

This will be the first time NXT has placed a match on the pre-show. Unfortunetly, with the pre-show only set to run for 30mins, and the amount of other material Charly Caruso, Sam Roberts, and Pat McAfee have to get through, it is unlikely to run for too long. Having said that, there are only four booked matches on this evening’s card, cutting down on the chatter the three hosts can draw from.

The complete card is detailed below:

  • Team Ripley: Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae, and Mia Yim Vs. Team Baszler: Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, and Kay Lee Ray WarGames match
  • Team Ciampa: Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, and TBA) Vs. The Undisputed Era: Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish WarGames match
  • Matt Riddle Vs. Finn Balor
  • Pete Dunne Vs. Damian Priest Vs. Killian Dain winner gets and NXT Championship match at Survivor Series
  • Isaiah Scott Vs. Angel Garza pre-show

RHEA RIPLEY ANNOUNCED AS TEAM CAPTAIN FOR SURVIVOR SERIES

On last night’s episode of SmackDown, Rhea Ripley was announced as the captain of team NXT in the women’s elimination tag match at Survivor Series.

During the episode Ripley faced her counterparts from RAW and SmackDown, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks respectively in a triple threat match. Rhea scored the win, catching Charlotte in a crucifix while she in turn had Banks in the Figure 8.

Before the match Flair and Banks came to the ring with their respective teams, Rhea did to, bringing Toni Storm, Mia Yim, Candice LeRae, and Tegan Nox. Although not confirmed, it’s assumed this will be the NXT team on Sunday. This may have already changed, with Mia Yim being attacked backstage before NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

CODY IN ACTION THIS WEDNESDAY

Cody will be taking part in his first match since losing to Chris Jericho at Full Gear.

AEW has confirmed that Cody will be taking part in singles action, though as of now his opponent hasn’t been announced.

At Full Gear AEW attached the stipulation that if Cody lost he would never be able to challenge for the belt again.

KELLY KLEIN DETAILS TROUBLES WITH ROH

Kelly Klein has spoken with Newsweek, detailing the issues that she has had with ROH. The complete article was added to by Adam Birch (Joey Mercury) and three other annouemous sources. The issues surround that lack of medical cover during a U.K. based tour, and that ROH put profit ahead of the safety of employees.

Speaking of the UK tour, Klein said:

“There was [no doctor] there to check on me. Nobody suggested a protocol. I wasn’t aware or briefed on a protocol.”

Klein went on, speaking of the care offered to her by ROH:

“nothing happened, nobody looked at me when I came through [to backstage].”

With concussion issues being so prominent at the moment and all the work going into concussion protocol and CTE, this is not something that is likely to go away anytime soon. ROH (and any organisation where concussion could realisiticly be an issue) should have a full and comprehensive concussion protocol.

JIM CORNETTE ADDRESSES COMMENTS ON NWA POWERRR

Jim Cornette addressed the situation leading to him leaving the NWA on Wednesday of this past week.

During the episode Jim retold a joke about starvation during a Trevor Murdoch and Nick Aldis match.

“I told a 30 year-old Ethiopian joke about starvation.

“I can’t remember whether I stole it or not. Somebody said it might be Richard Pryor, but we couldn’t find evidence of that. I always remember that I made it up because in the ’80s, which you might not recall because you’re not very old, everybody was telling Ethiopian jokes because it was huge news on a mainstream basis.

“It was — it wasn’t ‘We are the World, it was … Live Aid was for the Ethiopian famine. Every comic on television was making Ethiopian jokes. Every kid in school was making Ethiopian jokes … Somebody said, ‘Well, if he hadn’t have said chicken it would have been fine.’ Well, a bucket of chicken sounds funnier, it’s a funnier visual, than a f—ing plate of sushi, or a goddamned ham sandwich. So it just happened to be that, because that was funny. And then, because Ethiopia was noted for a place where everybody’s f—ing starving, it’s a starvation joke, not a race joke.

Cornette went on, speaking about how the show was taped, so if the production team had had any problem with the language he used it should have been picked up prior to broadcast.

At the end Jim did offer an apology to those who were offended saying:

“To anyone who was legitimately offended by a bad joke in kinda sort of a way and would accept a reasonable apology, as humans sometimes do … yes, I’m sorry. Because I didn’t intend it that way.”
