New Japan Cup 2017 First Round Results

THIS PAST WEEKEND SAW SIXTEEN MEN BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY TO SUPERSTARDOM AS THE NEW JAPAN CUP 2017 GOT UNDER WAY.

There were two massive shocks early on as two favourites bowed out in the first round. One of the early favourites Hiroshi Tanahashi lost to EVIL following the poison mist and most shocking of all, the returning Kenny Omega were knocked out in the first round by Tomohiro Ishii via a sheer drop brainbuster.

Veteran Yuji Nagata (a late replacement for the injured Honma) bested Tanga Loa on day one, with his fellow Guerillas of Destiny partner Tama Tonga also losing to a member of Chaos, as Toru Yano advanced via his infamous low blow and school boy combination. The Bullet Club does have one member in the quarter final, with Bad Luck Fale knocking off Michael Elgin.

Day Two saw an absolute war between Minoru Suzuki and Katsuyori Shibata, which had Shibata advance via P.K. YOSHI-HASHI, considered by many to be the breakout Japanese star of 2017, suffered a crushing first round loss to SANADA and finally, Juice Robinson continued his impressive start to 2017, making it into the last eight by beating Yujiro Takahashi.

The quarter finals will take place across the 13th to the 17th of March with EVIL facing Yuji Nagata, Bad Luck Fale taking on Toru Yano, Shibata up against Juice Robinson and SANADA versus Tomohiro Iishi.
