After a historic NXT last week, NXT truly became NXLee. So what is next for the double champ, Keith Lee?
The show opened with a recap of what happened last week. Then we saw videos of the NXT roster “congratulating” Keith Lee and sending him warnings. Those included Timothy Thatcher, Finn Balor, Kushida among others
Back at ringside we got the entrance of the North American and NXT Champion Keith Lee. Lee basks in the glory of the crowd for just a bit, before having the ring announcer introduce him one more time. He then said he was at a cross roads, the last few months have came with a lot of struggles and suffering. But now? Something special has been going on while being in the ring…now he is Champ Champ.
Lee highlighted the fact that while he has celebrated, it is now back to reality. He knows the NXT Roster is hunting for the same opportunity he earned. Lee didn’t get to this point on his own and he talked a bit on Tim Brooks (his trainer). Then he looked into the camera and gave credit to the NXT Universe (we see you Keith and we’ll keep singing).
Then Lee also wanted to give credit to another person, who he says he is celebrating for, Dominik Dijakovic. Lee said he wanted to have a chat with Dijakovic and called him out. Dijakovic came out and said no one on this planet is prouder of Lee than him, but says this is Lee’s moment. Lee disagreed. He went on to say that the matches he has had with Dijakovic propelled him to where he is at.
Lee said he had a talk with William Regal, a talk that included a suggestion. The suggestion being that the first championship match goes to Dominik Dijakovic. Dijakovic questioned if it would be both championships, which yes, and then asked when Lee wanted to have the match. Tonight was the answer!
Dijakovic seemed apprehensive, but eventually said yes.
We saw the arrival of Tegan Nox from earlier today, as commentary ran down the matches to come.
Damian Priest defeated Cameron Grimes via Pinfall (Reckoning)
It seems revenge has been claimed by Damian Priest. Cameron Grimes began the match by baiting Priest to the outside, but during a commercial Priest made his comeback. After avoiding the Cave In, Priest finished off Grimes for the victory.
After the match, Priest looked to the camera, he told Dijakovic and Lee he was real interested in the outcome of their match.
We saw Io Shirai arriving to Full Sail before heading to Thatch as Thatch Can School. Timothy Thatcher gave his students a lesson on tapping. A tap is education, but making your opponent cry because of pain? That is satisfaction.
Indie Hartwell beat Shotzi Blackheart
Hartwell looked fantastic in this match! Of course during the match Tom Phillips continued to bring up what Blackheart did to Robert Stone last week, a tad distracting honestly. But no matter, the two women put on a great match…plenty of back and forth action. Until Robert Stone came out, walking boot and all, to distract Aja Smith from doing her job. The distraction allowed Aliyah to throw Blackheart off the top rope, leading to Heartwell’s victory.
When we came back from a commercial, Mckenzie Mitchell was interviewing Tegan Nox. Nox said she has travelled too far and has been doing this for too long, tonight is her night. She said she wanted to join Kane and Molly Holly, two of her heroes, as champions.
Then we saw a video of Legado Del Fantasma at what appeared to be a hotel bar. The trio toasted to their first victory as a team. Then they mocked Drake Maverick and Breezango. Santos Escobar said that the cruiserweight division has been in need of a make over. He said they will build their empire by destroying the cruiserweight division and then building it back up.
After the Legado Del Fantasma video, Tom Phillips talked about our new NXT Champion. We then got to see a bit of the celebration that occurred last week.
Keith Lee defeated Dominik Dijakovic via Pinfall (Big Bang Catastrophe)
I mean, the match was excellent and with these two that should be expected. Lee and Dijakovic seem to know each other better than anyone in that ring. A few times during the match they came to a stalemate. Dijakovic offered a handshake at one point, but after Lee pulled him into a headlock. When a pounce sent Dijakovic to the outside, it looked like Lee was going to charge the barricade again. Dijakovic moved and Lee was able to stop himself. The match was hard fought to the very end.
After the match, as the men were congratulating each other, the lights went out. A spotlight hit the entrance ramp and you guessed it! Scarlett appeared. Scarlett walked to the ring and dropped a broken hourglass on the ring apron. Tick Tock it seemed.
Dijakovic was interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell after a commercial. He began talking about how Keith Lee is on a different level. Then he mentioned how Karrion Kross isn’t close to that level. Kross then crashed the interview and the two had a brawl, one the Kross handled rather easily.
Timothy Thatcher defeated Denzel Dejournette via Submission (Fujiwara Armbar)
This one didn’t last long. Dejournette got a couple hits in and utilized his amateur wrestling background, but once the armbar was locked in there was no chance.
After the match, Thatcher inflicted more pain to Dejournette with an ankle lock. Oney Lorcan made the save and sent Thatcher (angrily) walking away.
We saw Robert Stone attempting to talk to Killian Dain about what happened last week. Stone made excuse after excuse and blamed Shotzi Blackheart. Aliyah ran up with a drawing, she said Dexter Lumis left it. Dain grabbed it and seemed pretty angry. Dain said if Stone wanted to make it up to him, he would get a match for him with Lumis.
Somehow Stone pulled it off. Next week Killian Dain will face Dexter Lumis. Mauro Ranallo also informed us that Dominik Dijakovic will face Karrion Kross next week.
Io Shirai defeated Tegan Nox via Pinfall (Moonsault)
Nox attempted a handshake before the bell, but Shirai slapped her hand away. As Beth Phoenix said, both women were out to showcase their technical skills. Nox was super focused during this match and it did look like her dream of becoming champion was on the verge of coming true, but Io Shirai truly is the Genius of the Sky. After stopping a Shiniest Wizard attempt, Shirai took to the skies, putting an end to Nox’s dream.
As Io Shirai was celebrating her victory on top of the entrance ramp, Dakota Kai made her presence known. Kai took Shirai out with a kick and that’s the show folks!
