NXT TakeOver War Games 2019 Predictions

Shalene Hixon gives her predictions for NXT Takeover War Games 2019.

Just one night before NXT takes part in Survivor Series for the first time ever, wars will be waged at TakeOver: WarGames.

Tensions have been building for months now and it’s all going to come to a head on Saturday night in Chicago.

There are four matches officially on the card, with no major NXT titles on the line. Everyone loves their match predictions, so allow me to offer up my own for the show!

Finn Balor vs. Matt Riddle

Kicking things off is a match that is sure to impress.

Balor made his shocking return to NXT on the October 2nd episode of NXT. Then, several weeks later, he shocked the world once again by turning heel and attacking Johnny Gargano. On the November 13th episode of NXT, he insulted the NXT roster, specifically Gargano and Matt Riddle, calling them boys who couldn’t take a beating.

Riddle didn’t take too kindly to the comments and confronted the former Universal Champion. Later that night, as he was helping his then WarGames teammates, Keith Lee and Tommaso Ciampa, he was attacked by Balor. It was then announced that the two would face off at TakeOver: WarGames, resulting in Riddle being removed from Team Ciampa and unable to compete in the men’s WarGames match.

I could easily see this match going either way, but I’m going with Balor on this time. This is the first time he’s been a heel in WWE and him losing right out of the gate would not help him at all. Defeating Riddle would be a huge statement, especially since The Original Bro is one of the fastest rising stars on the NXT roster.

So, while Riddle will certainly put up quite a fight, Balor will emerge victorious.

Winner: Finn Balor

Pete Dunne vs. Killian Dain vs. Damian Priest

Up next is a triple threat match with some pretty high stakes. Whoever wins will go on to face Adam Cole for the NXT Championship the following night at Survivor Series.

All three men have been at odds with each other since the October 16th episode of NXT. Before the scheduled match between Dunne and Priest, Dain got involved and got his fingers snapped by the former as a result. Priest went on to beat Dunne thanks to a low blow, so a rematch was scheduled for November 6th.

Dunne beat Priest by submission, but Dain attacked both men after the match was over. The following week, Dunne and Dain were scheduled to compete. However, Priest attacked both men beforehand and a brawl broke out between the three. The triple threat match was then made official for TakeOver: WarGames this past Tuesday.

This one is going to be extremely physical, and has the potential to steal the show on Saturday night. Dunne winning wouldn’t be a surprise, but I’m going to pick Priest instead. He isn’t as established as Dunne just yet, but he has been getting more and more TV time lately. This leads me to believe that this could be the moment where he gets an even bigger push.

The Archer of Infamy will pick up the win and get the chance to make an even bigger statement at Survivor Series.

Winner: Damian Priest

WarGames Match: Rhea Ripley, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, & Candice LeRae vs. Shayna Baszler, Kay Lee Ray, Io Shirai, & Bianca Belair

Then we come to the first-ever women’s WarGames match.

All of these women have had issues with each other over the past few months. It all came to a boiling point on the October 30th episode of NXT, where a massive brawl broke out between members of the women’s division. William Regal declared that there was only one solution to this problem: WarGames.

Ripley and Baszler were then named team captains and were tasked with picking three other women to join them. The former chose Nox, LeRae, and Yim, while the latter picked Shirai, Belair, and Ray.

I’m really looking forward to this one; this has all the makings of a brutal and highly entertaining match. One thing I’m going to keep my eye on is if Dakota Kai will show up. Ripley picked Yim over her, but she insisted that there were no hard feelings. However, she has continued to lose matches since, so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if she’s close to her breaking point.
But she could also potentially put those feelings aside and help Team Ripley even the odds, especially with Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke being at ringside.

Regardless of what Kai might do, I’m still picking Team Ripley to win. More specifically, I’m predicting that Ripley will end up pinning Baszler. That way it continues their feud and helps set up another match between the two, possibly with the NXT Women’s Championship on the line.

All of these women might never be the same after stepping inside WarGames, but Team Ripley will come out the other side victorious.

Winners: Rhea Ripley, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, & Candice LeRae

WarGames Match: The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, & Bobby Fish) vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, & TBA

Finally, we come to the men’s WarGames match.

The problems started on the October 30th episode of NXT, where O’Reilly & Fish defeated the team of Lee and Matt Riddle. The Undisputed Era then attacked both men after the match, until Ciampa came out to help. The following week, the WarGames match was made official and Ciampa, Lee, and Riddle needed to find a partner.

A few weeks later, they had their answer in Dijakovic. He helped even the odds following another attack by The Undisputed Era, then asked to be on Ciampa’s team. The former NXT Champion accepted, and the teams were set.

However, later that night, Riddle had to be removed from the team since he was facing Balor instead. So now Team Ciampa is still down one member, and it looks like we won’t find out who will replace Riddle until Saturday night. But Triple H has teased that the mystery partner reveal will be a big one, so that’s something to keep our eyes on.

With that being said, I think Team Ciampa is going to pick up the win. If this mystery partner is as big of a deal as we’re hearing, it could shift all the momentum in the good guys’ favor.

A loss really wouldn’t hurt The Undisputed Era either; they’re still going to remain at the top of the NXT mountain for the foreseeable future. But Cole better watch out, because Ciampa winning almost guarantees that he’ll be gunning for the NXT Championship soon after.

Winners: Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, & TBA
