Pedro Morales Passes Away Aged 76

The first wrestler to hold the WWF’s ‘Triple Crown’, Pedro Morales has sadly died at the age of 76.

The news was first announced by former WWE announcer Hugo Savinovich on Facebook.

The Puerto Rican superstar was born on October 22, 1942 and he made his professional wrestling debut in 1959 with the WWA. He became a major star in his native Puerto Rico in the 60s, winning their World Heavyweight and Tag Team Championships. 

He then moved on to the World Wide Wrestling Federation, where he became a household name as the first Latino to win the World Championship, as well as a stint with the United States Championship. In a second stint with the WWF, he won the Intercontinental Championship and the WWF Tag Team Championships with Bob Backlund. 

His combined reign as WWWF Heavyweight Champion remains among the longest in history, and he also holds the record for most days as Intercontinental Champion. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1995.
