This Sunday’s show at the Electric Ballroom in Camden marks PROGRESS Wrestling’s final stop on the road to the Natural Progression Series and their biggest show of the year at Alexandra Palace on September 14th and 15th respectively.
As a result, we should see the final components put in place for what is already a stacked card that promises to deliver the best ‘big September’ show the company has produced to date. Much like Chapter 93, Chapter 94’s card features more independent talent than ever with not a single WWE UK contracted performer advertised. Combined with the Revelations of Divine Love tournament that headlines this card, and Sunday’s show feels like a breath of fresh air. Let’s take a closer look at Chapter 94’s matches.
Aussie Open vs. Do Not Resuscitate (Spike Trivet and William Eaver)
With Aussie Open coming off the back of their PROGRESS World Tag Team Championship loss to Grizzled Young Veterans on the same show that DNR scored an impressive victory over The NIC, both teams have a point to prove this weekend. After Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher have been on top of the PROGRESS tag team division for the best part of a year, it is strange to see the odds in favour of their opponents. Can DNR continue to build their momentum for a title opportunity, perhaps at Ally Pally? With the Tag Team Championship currently not being defended at Chapter 95, this match could put an answer to our questions and change that.
Paul Robinson vs. Lucky Kid – Proteus Rumble First & Final Decider
With the winner and loser guaranteed the last and first entry slots respectively, Paul Robinson and Lucky Kid square off in their second consecutive chapter show as they both look to better their chances at becoming the inaugural PROGRESS Proteus Champion in the Rumble match on September 15th. Both competitors showed great in-ring chemistry at Chapter 93 and this encounter looks to be even more impressive now that the stakes have been lifted. Robinson scored the victory at 93, will he be victorious a second time?
Chris Brookes vs. Eddie Kingston
Ahead of the marquee six-man tag match that takes place at the NPS pitching CCK and Lucky Kid against LAX and Eddie Kingston, Chris Brookes takes on Kingston in singles competition. The winner of this hard-hitting contest shall decide the stipulation for the big match. Again, the stakes add so much more to this match and I look forward to watching this one back on Demand PROGRESS. Could this be the match that elevates Brookes into singles stardom in PROGRESS?
A show-stealing match here with the Mad King would certainly be a step towards that.
Anti-Fun Police vs. South Pacific Power Trip
In their first appearance for PROGRESS since Chapter 86 back in March, the Anti-Fun Police return to do battle with TK Cooper and NIWA of the South Pacific Power Trip. Los Federales Santos Jr. and Chief Deputy Dunne has been a part of the funniest comedy matches in PROGRESS and the addition of AFP definitely brings something different to an otherwise wrestling-focused card. It is worth noting that SPPT leader Travis Banks is absent from this card, therefore Cooper and NIWA will have to stand up on their own.
Revelations of Divine Love Tournament
The focal point of Chapter 94 is the four-women tournament that will decide who defends the PROGRESS Women’s World Championship against Meiko Satomura at Alexandra Palace. The two announced semi-final matches see reigning champion Jordynne Grace taking on Dani Luna who comes fresh from her victory in the four-way match at Chapter 93, and crowd-favourite Candy Floss squaring off against Chakara who makes her return to PROGRESS since leaving the House of Couture.
Interestingly, the championship is on the line in every match that includes the champion, meaning that in theory; the PROGRESS Women’s World Championship could change hands twice on this show. Though I’d place my money on Jordynne Grace to retain, the prospect of Dani Luna wrestling Meiko Satomura is quite exciting.
With a fresh format and a roster that promises to smash it out of the park, Chapter 94 looks to be a compelling show and will certainly leave positive impressions as we mentally prepare for the walk up the hill to Alexandra Palace.
