TONIGHT’S RAW TAPING DELAYED

According to PWInsider and Dave Meltzer, the taping of tonight’s episode of RAW has been delayed.

Apparently as early as last night rumours were swirling that tonight’s script had been ripped up. It isn’t clear exactly why the show needed such wholesale changes. One theory centres on Asuka. With the original finish changed at last night’s Extreme Rules, many are considering the possible ramifications and next months SummerSlam. Another theory states that Vince designed the confusing finished to try to increase RAW viewership in a last-minute move.

While there is little risk of the show not being taped, very little has subsequently been announced. The only match that had been confirmed prior to Extreme Rules was an unsanctioned match between Big Show and Randy Orton. Four hours before the show was set to air, WWE also confirmed Aleister Black vs. Seth Rollins. The match builds on Seth and Rey Mysterio’s eye for an eye match from the night before.

KAIRI SANE SET TO LEAVE WWE

PWInsider reported that today, July 20, is the final day on Kairi Sane’s WWE contract.

The news comes on that back of recent reports that Sane was planning to leave WWE to return to Japan. While the reports never spoke about the exact end date of her contract, there are/were plans extending well into August. WWE may still opt to use Sane, they have had stars work past the end-date of their contract’s repeatedly, apparently, Rey Mysterio is working under those conditions presently.

Sane appeared on last night’s Extreme Rules, and it’s entirely possible that a decision around her contract or immediate future may have been behind the last-minute change in Asuka and Sasha’s match.

WWE ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING REY MYSTERIO’S HEALTH

Following the highly controversial Eye for an Eye match at Extreme Rules last night, WWE has issued an update regarding Rey Mysterio’s health.

The end of the match saw Seth impale Rey’s eye onto the corner of the ring steps, winning the match in the process. While there had been rumour of CGI, WWE used fake blood and a fake eye instead. According to Dave Meltzer, the eye match was chosen as it gave WWE an easy out regarding Rey’s contract status. Rey is currently without a WWE contract, it’s thought that if he’d re-signed prior to the match, that he would have won. However, with the situation as it is, if Rey chooses not to re-sign, then WWE can explain his absence as due to the injury. See below for WWE’s statement:

After the sickening conclusion of the Eye for an Eye Match, Charly Caruso provided an update on the condition of Rey Mysterio. Mysterio was rushed to a local medical facility to be treated for a potential globe luxation. Medical experts were optimistic that if the optic nerve is not severed and there is not too much strain on the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of the head, there’s a chance Mysterio can maintain his vision.
