STARDOM: Stardom Dream Queendom 2021 Preview

The end of the year is fast approaching us, folks. It’s been an absolute honour for me to start covering Stardom for TWM and for all of you. Stardom saved my love of wrestling 10 years ago and I’ve fallen in love with the promotion over and over again ever since. I won’t bore you with my history with the promotion today but I wanted to say thanks before I began.

Today, we’re previewing the Stardom Dream Queendom show taking place on 12/29. Given what happened at the Osaka Super Wars show, this card has a lot of intrigue behind it. There are five titles up for grabs and eight matches in total. Since, at this point, I am 100% unsure of the actual line-up for which match will go where I’m going to preview the matches for you how I feel the card will flow. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Stardom Dream Queendom 2021
5 Way Match: Lady C vs Waka Tsukiyama
vs Saki Kashima vs Fukigen Death vs Rina

First up we have a five way match. This match is likely to end up on the preshow and really has no implications for anything. We’ve got Saki Kashima, Rina and Fukigen Death all from Oedo Tai, Waka Tsukiyama from the Cosmic Angels and Lady C who has not joined a unit yet. Honestly, I’m not expecting a whole lot out of this match, it’s probably going to be fun but that’s about it. Fukigen is in the twilight of her career and is mostly putting on shorter matches whereas the rest are all young and have a lot left in the tank. I guarantee that they carry the match and make Fukigen look great in the process. I don’t expect the match to last very long either. When the final bell rings I expect a quite unexpected result to take place. That said, it will be one that is well deserved.

Predicted winner: Lady C

Future of Stardom Championship: Ruaka (c) vs Hanan

After Ruaka defeated Waka Tsukiyama and Mai Sakurai in a 3 way at Tokyo Super Wars, Hanan announced herself as the next challenger for the Future title. Hanan can definitely carry the match and make Ruaka look great in the process. It’s a bit shocking to me that it took this long for Hanan to get a Future’s title opportunity, but given the recent uptick for STARS, it’s one that I anticipate she capitalizes on. She’ll give Ruaka everything she has no matter the result. Ruaka is Stardom’s Tamina. She’s strong and she has size but she’s not all that athletic in the ring. She is really damn safe though so that is a big bonus for her. I’ve really not been impressed during her title run and I think that she should not have been the one to dethrone Unagi for the title, but I think that run ends here. Hanan will win the Future’s title and bring that belt to STARS.

Predicted Winner: Hanan (New Champion)

High Speed Championship Triple Threat Match:
AZM vs Starlight Kid (c) vs Koguma

Up next should be the triple threat for the High-Speed Championship. Azumi challenged Kid for the title after the latter’s successful defence against Koguma, but the bear didn’t want to be left out of the match on 12/29. So she asked to be involved and Kid accepted. Thus the triple threat was born. Honestly, I’d have loved to see a four-way with Natsupoi as that would have been an insane match, but this is the one we are being given. Azumi and Kid are eternal rivals. They’ve been facing each other ever since their training camps and they always put on great shows when in the ring together. Both have evolved a lot this year, with Kid having the most growth. That said, Osaka saw a huge moment happen as Momo Watanabe betrayed Azumi and Queen’s Quest to side with Starlight Kid and Oedo Tai. This deeply affected Azumi, who looked to Momo as a mentor and a best friend. You have to figure that will play a part in this match. I am willing to bet that AZM is looking to get some revenge on Kid although I’m not sure that her head will fully be into the match. Then we have Koguma. Koguma returned from retirement earlier this year and has become a stalwart for STARS once again. Starlight Kid is on the best run of her career to this point and I don’t see Stardom killing her momentum here. Starlight Kid retains her title after a fast-paced, really fun match.

Predicted Winner: Starlight Kid (c)

6 Woman Tag Match: Donna del Mondo vs Cosmic Angels

Donna del Mondo: Maika, Himeka & Natsupoi

Cosmic Angels: Mina Shirakawa, Mai Sakurai & Unagi Sayaka

As of this writing, the Artist of Stardom Championship is not on the line for this match, but that could change between now and the 29th. As it is, this is a six woman tag match between the units Donna del Mondo and the Cosmic Angels. Donna del Mondo just won the unit tournament at Osaka Super Wars and the Angels immediately challenged them to a match afterwards. This should be an interesting match despite not having any real stipulations. With Himeka and Natsupoi back on the same page, it’s gonna be hard for the Angels to get the win here. Despite that, Unagi and Mina are scrappy as hell and always give 100% of themselves for each match. They will have to carry the load for their team as Mai is still really green and isn’t quite up to Stardom standards yet. All that said, I think that it’s DDM’s match to lose. I just don’t see them doing so now that they are all on the same page.

Predicted Winner: Donna del Mondo

Stardom Dream Queendom 2021
Special match: Giulia vs Konami

Giulia returns from injury for this match, whereas Konami will be taking an indefinite hiatus after this match to recover fully from her severe health issues from the last few months.

Konami announced earlier this month that she will be leaving Stardom to focus on getting healthy once again. This is a really smart move by her since she has been really sick lately. This illness has even hospitalized her recently so I am sure that she isn’t anywhere near 100% right now. Her opponent, Giulia, has spent the last several months out with injury but is returning just to be Konami’s send off opponent. Win or lose, this is the last we will see of Konami for a while. She’ll technically be a freelancer after this match, but she promised that we have not seen the last of her and that she will return when she is healthy. I think this is the perfect “last” match for Konami. Giulia is looked at as one of the pillars of Stardom despite her controversies and it’s clear that Rossy and company are high on her. This is going to be a fun, physical match that will be really hard to call. That said, something that I won’t rule out is that this match goes to a time-limit draw. Frankly, I think doing it that way would be best as it lets Konami go out without eating a loss and it helps Giulia look good coming back.

Prediction: Time-limit Draw

10 Year Anniversary Special Tag Match:

Takumi Iroha & Mayu Iwatani vs Hazuki & Momo Watanabe

For this special tag match we have Takumi Iroha, on loan from Marvelous, teaming with Mayu Iwatani to face off against Hazuki, Mayu’s unit mate, and Momo Watanabe. Momo shocked the world at the Osaka Super Wars show by betraying Queen’s Quest and joining Oedo Tai willingly. That really shouldn’t come into play too much for this match, though it is interesting that the newest member of Oedo Tai is teaming with someone who, at one point, was one of the best members of that very unit in Hazuki. This is going to be a hard hitting affair. I know I said that before but this one is not going to be full of high flying or anything. It’s gonna be more technical and strike focused and it is going to be absolutely insane. You’ve got four of the best women’s wrestlers in the world here and there is no reason why this match doesn’t have the chance to be the best one of the night. It’s really hard to call, truthfully, but I have a feeling that the team of Takumi and Mayu will find a way to win it.

Predicted Winners: Takumi Iroha and Mayu Iwatani

Stardom Dream Queendom 2021
Wonder of Stardom Championship: Tam Nakano (c) vs Saya Kamitani

Saya Kamitani gets her rematch at Queendom for the Wonder of Stardom title as she challenges Tam Nakano once again for the white belt. Tam’s been an incredible champion since defeating Giulia for the title earlier this year. She’s defended that belt successfully against every person who’s tried to take it away from her and she’s only looked better with each defence. Saya Kamitani has to find a way to right the Queen’s Quest ship after she and the others were betrayed by Momo Watanabe earlier in the month. That shocked the entire unit and it seems to have really burrowed deep into their collective psyche’s. I don’t know how Saya will do it, but she has to have her head in the game or else Tam is going to destroy her. The Golden Phoenix has the best chance to take the belt from her but this is going to be a case where the title will not change hands just yet. Someday, Saya will carry this belt but today is not that day.

Predicted Winner: Tam Nakano (c)

Stardom Dream Queendom 2021
World of Stardom Championship: Utami Hayashishita (c) vs Syuri

Special Rule: There will be no time limit for this match. There must be a winner.

Syuri and Utami Hayashishita have faced each other three times this year in single’s matches. Two of those matches have gone to a time-limit draw and Syuri won one of them. So this championship match has the stipulation that there will be no time limit. There will be a winner in this match. Stardom has built Syuri up in the latter half of this year as the one who will dethrone Utami. They’ve made Syuri and Utami look stronger with each match to the point where the match is going to be nearly impossible to call. I am not in that camp though and I believe that things are a lot more predictable than people think. Utami has been an amazing champion. I’m not going to downplay this at all. Every since her title match against Syuri on 6/12, she has looked better and more dominant with each defense. Then you have Syuri who won the 5 Star Grand Prix this year and has been booked really dominantly since then. I know I said this before in the Saya vs Tam match, but the Momo Watanabe betrayal has hit Utami hard and I’m sure it will affect her heading into this match. Sure it won’t be to AZM’s level but it will still be there. I still believe that Syuri is going to be the one to dethrone Utami and that is my prediction here. That said, I can absolutely believe that Utami will find a way to retain so that Syuri isn’t carrying around three different belts..

Predicted Winner: Syuri (New Champion)

That’s it for my prediction folks. I’ll see you later on for the review. Enjoy the holidays and have a phenomenal new year!
