Two Shock Names Rumoured For Hall Of Fame | Wrestling News Update, January 13th 2020

With big news on two new inductees to the WWE Hall of Fame and the ratings for AEW and NXT, Matty Deller brings you the Wrestling News Update.

BELLA TWINS AND JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER RUMOURED FOR 2020 HALL OF FAME

According to @WrestleVotes, WWE are set to announce two rather interesting inductees to the 2020 Hall of Fame.

Nikki and Brie, The Bella Twins and Japanese legend Jushin Thunder Liger have been reportedly ‘confirmed’ to be a part of this years class. They would join Batista and the New World Order (Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) in this years class.

The Bella’s are multiple-time Divas Champions and reached mainstream exposure whilst in the WWE with their highly successful reality shows, Total Divas and Total Bellas. Jushin Thunder Liger is a multiple time IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion in both the singles and tag division, and won a host of championships across the globe. He retired earlier this year at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 14.

AEW RATINGS DOWN 12 PERCENT

AEW Dynamite is still the dominant force on Wednesday night’s, with them taking the night with an average viewership of 817,000 to NXT’s 757,000.

Dynamite’s number was down 12 percent from last week while NXT dipped by just two percent. In the 18-49 demo, AEW averaged a 0.3 rating, down 17 percent from last week whereas NXT was up nine percent in the demo, averaging a 0.24.

Alongside their dominance with people over 50, NXT also had a slight win in females 18-49 with a 0.18 to 0.16 advantage over AEW.

TEDDY HART ARRESTED

Former MLW, AAA and Ring of Honor star Teddy Hart was arrested Tuesday on drug related charges in Richmond, Virginia.

40-year-old Edward Annis was charged with possession of a Schedule III narcotic (a Class 1 misdemeanor) and possession with intent to sell or distribute.

According to PW Insider, Hart was incarcerated at the Richmond County Jail after being booked at midnight. It’s unknown if he has been released on bail, but he does have an April 23rd court date.

Schedule III drugs include codeine, anabolic steroids, hydrocodone, and other similar goods. Hart faces up to a year in jail and up to a $2500 fine for the misdemeanor while the possession with intent charge carries a large jail time of between 1-10 years in prison or up to a year in jail with a fine to not exceed $2500.

Hart was released by MLW late last year.

JEFF COBB DEBUTS ON AEW

Former ROH Television Champion Jeff Cobb made a shock debut on All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite last night.

During the show, AEW World Champion Chris Jericho cut a promo directed toward Jon Moxley, saying he scoured the globe looking for a bounty hunter/assassin and next week, Moxley will take a tour of the islands as he revealed that Jeff Cobb is his hired gun.

At the end of the show, Cobb’s music hit and he came out to assist The Inner Circle in a beatdown of Moxley to close the show.

There has been no news in regards to whether Cobb has signed an exclusive deal. In January, Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that Cobb is working on a per-show basis there instead of with a contract.

RHODES VS HAGER CONFIRMED FOR AEW REVOLUTION

Jake Hager will finally make his All Elite Wrestling in-ring debut when he faces Dustin Rhodes at All Elite Wrestling’s Revolution.

Rhodes called out Hager following his victory over Sammy Guevara, saying he’s failed at MMA and failing in wrestling. He offered out the challenge which Hager walked away from but AEW then confirmed the match.

Revolution will take place on February 29th at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

WWE ANNOUNCE THREE MATCHES FOR POST-TAKEOVER NXT

Three matches have already been confirmed for the episode of NXT following TakeOver: Portland.

Velveteen Dream vs. Roderick Strong will take place on NXT next Wednesday.

In addition, a NXT Cruiserweight Championship match has been signed with Jordan Devlin defending his title against Lio Rush.

Finally, Chelsea Green will face Kayden Carter in a rematch from two weeks ago.

PROGRESS ANNOUNCE WORLD TITLE MATCH FOR CHAPTER 103

Cara Noir will have his second defence of the PROGRESS World Championship in two weeks time at Chapter 103: Beer Snake City.

Noir will defend his belt against former PROGRESS Champion Mark Andrews, who is off a win at Chapter 102 against Ilja Dragunov. Cara Noir successfully defended his title in Cardiff against Chris Brookes.

Chapter 103 takes place on February 23rd in the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London.
