This Friday night Warrior Wrestling makes their return to iPPV when they present Friday Night Lights, live on Fite TV.
The event will be live in front of a crowd on the football field of the Marian Catholic High School in Chicago. Warrior Wrestling has become one of the most must-see independent promotions right now. Putting on great cards with some of the biggest independent wrestlers around today, wrestlers such as the faction Chaos and Stronghearts, also Amazing Red, Alex Shelley and Jonathan Gresham.
The card includes “The Machine” Brian Cage facing off against Jeff Cobb and “Smiley” Kylie Rae going up against Ray Lyn. Also appearing on the card are The Rascalz, War Horse & Isaias Velazquez. But the main event will be “Flyin” Brian Pillman Jr defending his newly won Warrior Wrestling World title for the very first time against Robert Anthony.
Flyin’ Brian became champion after the previous champion Brian Cage was forced to relinquish the title due to injury, so at Warrior Wrestling 8 back in February a new champion needed to be crowned in the men’s division. That was to be decided in a War of Attrition match – 10 competitors would start the match in two teams of five, the aim is to be one of the last two competitors left once everyone else had been eliminated. Pillman Jr along with Andrew Everett were the final competitors who then had a one on one match with Pillman coming out on top, despite earlier in the night being defeated by Bully Ray in a tables match. The former champion handpicked Pillman to be in the War of Attrition match and clearly the machine made the right choice.
His opponent this week at Friday Night Lights is Robert “Ego” Anthony: you may know him from his few appearances on AEW Dark. You may also know him by Ego Fantastico, the last person to hold the CZW Iron Man Championship. Anthony was supposed to take part in the War of Attrition match at Warrior Wrestling 8 after defeating Warhorse earlier in the night but he instead chose to give his spot in the match to his “mentor” and friend Frank the Clown, who was disposed of very early on in the match.
Although my knowledge on Robert Anthony is fairly limited having only watched a handful of matches that he has featured in it’s clear that he’s very technical in his ability and his promo work, and of course the same could certainly be said for his opponent on Friday night. At 26 years old Brian Pillman Jr has a natural ability and quite frankly one of the best looking mullets in pro wrestling today. If the rumours are to believed and BPJr is currently unhappy under his current MLW contract then there could be a lot of interest from promotions for Flyin’ Brian.

However, the upcoming match between Pillman Jr and Robert “Ego” Anthony in the main event of Friday Night Lights has the potential to be the match of the night, which would be no small feat considering the names and matches included on the card. Jake Something vs Joey Janela & The Rascalz vs Blake Christian, Alex Zayne and Ben Carter all have show-stealing potential, which arguably leaves some pressure on the shoulders of the newly minted world champion and the challenger to finish the show strong and send everyone home happy; especially as this could be many people’s first live show since the worldwide lockdown began.
Live Pro Wrestling with fans is slowly becoming a reality which could potentially and hopefully start a trend of promotions opening back up and allowing fans to come back, and holding shows in the open is certainly a step in the right direction. Who could resist live pro wrestling? Especially when there are companies like Warrior Wrestling putting out matches and cards such as this one with so many talented professional wrestlers. Admittedly I have joined the Warrior Wrestling party pretty late having started with WW:8 but they’ve made a regular watcher out of me for all future events.
