THOR TO PLAY HULK HOGAN?

Yesterday it was announced Chris Hemsworth will play WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan in a biopic about Hogan’s pro wrestling career. 

This film will have Hemsworth and Eric Bischoff will both be producers, with Hogan as Executive Producer and also serving as a consultant on the film. Nothing has been written yet, but Netflix  is “very high” on the film and the film will be written by John Pollono (Strong) and Scott Silver (The Joker).

The movie will focus on Hogan’s rise in pro wrestling, but will not involve his lawsuit against Gawker, divorcing his wife, or the sex tape scandal and racist comments that got him released from WWE back in 2015.

NXT STARS HUGE DRAW FOR RAW AND SMACKDOWN

It appears the black-and-yellow brand is a big ratings hit.

Monday’s WWE RAW, where NXT superstars Ricochet, Aleister Black, Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano made their TV debuts, drew 2.771 million viewers, which garnered its best viewership since last September, up from last week’s 2.462 million viewers.

This was not a one-off trend, as their subsequent appearance on SmackDown Live drew 2.269 million viewers, up 11.6% from last week’s 2.034 million viewers. This was also the highest rating for 2019.

NXT ANNOUNCE DUSTY RHODES CLASSIC

NXT’s much-hyped “special announcement” was that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament will be returning.

An eight-team tournament, where the winners will get an NXT Tag Team title shot against the War Raiders at TakeOver: New York.

The first four teams announced were The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish), Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel, The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler), and The Street Profits; with the second four being revealed on next weeks episode.

TAKASHI IIZUKA WRESTLES FINAL MATCH

NJPW ran Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall today with a New Japan Road event, featuring Takashi Iizuka’s retirement match. 

In his final ever match; Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yani & Hiroyoshi Tenzan defeated Takashi Iizuka, Minoru Suzuki & Taichi when Yano hit a low blow on Iizuka, followed by an Okada tombstone followed by Tenzan draping their old tag shirt over Iizuka, hitting him with a moonsault for the pin. 

Tenzan offered a handshake, and Iizuka finally accepted it. The feel-good moment was short-lived. Iizuka then bit Tenzan, hit him with a chair and then his lethal iron glove.

REVPRO ANNOUNCE HUGE TAG MATCH FOR MANIA WEEKEND

Revolution Pro Wrestling announced today that Will Ospreay & PAC will face CCK (Chris Brookes & Jonathan Gresham) at their WrestleCon show in New York City on Friday, April 5  at the Hilton New York Midtown Ballroom. 

This match comes about from Will Ospreay and PAC’s first-ever match against each other from RevPro’s High Stakes/ Brookes and Gresham interfered and attacked Ospreay while the referee was down. Brookes went to hit Ospreay with PAC’s Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate title belt, but PAC stopped him. Ospreay and PAC worked together to take out the other team.

PROGRESS ANNOUNCE DEBUT NEWCASTLE SHOW

Yesterday, PROGRESS announced another huge weekender of wrestling events with a first time show in the north-east.

On Saturday 6th July, PROGRESS makes it’s debut in Newcastle as the o2 Academy for Chapter 91: Prog On The Tyne before returning to Manchester on Sunday 7th of July for Chapter 92: Entertaining Friends.

Tickets for these events go on sale on Monday 11th March at noon.
