The Undertaker would make his debut, on camera, in the WWF/WWE on 22nd November 1990 at Survivor Series as a Heel and was the mystery partner on Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team. Around this time he would team up with Paul Bearer who was almost always seen bearing an urn, which was revealed to help revive The Undertaker’s strength. He would make his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania VII on 24th March 1991 defeating “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, this would start his twenty-one yeah winning streak at WrestleMania.
The Undertaker would have many different looks over the years, from his black, grey, and purple combo at his debut to the more traditional look of being in all black, with a long trench coat and hat. The Undertaker has spent the last thirty years reinventing himself and exploring the depths of darkness and his own humanity which has made him a character that has really lasted and resonated with the viewer, young and old.
The emergence of Kane in the WWF/WWE would start with a slow build from April 1997. The undertaker launched a fireball into the face of his former manager, Paul Bearer who had taken Mankind under his wing, at In Your House 14: Revenge of the Taker. On 12th May Bearer would use an ultimatum, in an attempt to reunite with The Undertaker, that ultimatum was that he would reveal The Undertakers biggest secret. What that was wouldn’t become clear for several months, Bearer tormenting him by informing him that his long-lost brother, Kane, would soon be here and wanted to challenge The Undertaker for his WWF World Title. As October approached Bearer would heavily imply that The Undertaker has murdered his family by starting a fire at the family’s funeral home but reviled that Kane has survived but is very mentally and physically scarred by the traumatizing event. The Undertaker would deny this claim saying Kane was a pyromaniac who started the fire and could not have survived it.
On 5th October 1 997 at Bad Blood: In Your House, in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match, Kane would make his presence known, ripping the door off the cell and delivering a Tombstone Piledriver to The Undertaker resulting in Shawn Michaels taking the WWF Championship from him. The two brothers would feud over the next year as more of their back-story was explored, with a brief reconciliation until Kane betrayed The Undertaker, interfering in his match for the WWF Championship against Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble in January 1998. After the match, Kane would lock The Undertaker in a casket and set it on fire. Unknown to Kane, The Undertaker escaped. On 29th March 1998, The Undertaker would return at WrestleMania XIV to defeat Kane. On the 26th April the two of them would participate in an Inferno match at Unforgiven: In Your House which The Undertaker would win. Kane would finally defeat his brother in a number one contenders match going on to win the WWF Championship off of Stone Cold Steve Austin at King of the Ring in a First Blood match.
It would be later revealed that Paul Bearer was the father of Kane, making them half brothers. And in October of 1998, The Undertaker would finally confess to being the one to purposely burn down his family home with his family inside. Kane’s appearance was that of a masked man, sporting long black hair and wearing red and black ring attire, covering most of his body to hide the scars he suffered at the hands of his brother.
