We are only two weeks away from another massive WWE Pay-Per-View event. SummerSlam Toronto takes place on August 11th, at the Scotia Bank Arena in Toronto.
This is by far the biggest WWE event of the summer. But not only will SummerSlam be held in Toronto, RAW, SmackDown Live, and NXT Takeover will all get broadcast from Canada in the days leading up to SummerSlam!
We now know the three of the main events, and sports betting sites have listed their odds, each favouring the current champions; not a single No.1 contender is favoured for the Women’s RAW or SmackDown Titles, or Universal Champion.
What We Know
The Men
We know that Seth Rollins is the No. 1 contender after winning the 10-man Battle Royal. Brock Lesner is a -200 favourite to retain his title. But I’m not sure that he will. People think it would be idiocy for him to regain the Universal Champion Title and lose it at the following PPV event, but he has spent so much time as the Universal Champion that I wonder if the WWE might throw a wrench on the cogs and mix it up. Seth Rollins has more than enough star power to get behind. My guess is that he wins through some sort of trickery, and slays the Beast Incarnate.
We also know that Shane McMahon will take on Kevin Owens at SummerSlam. McMahon is a hefty dog at +275; Owens is coming in as a -400 favourite to win the singles match. The last time these two officially went at it was back in 2017 in the Hell in a Cell match. Owens came out victorious two years ago, and now he is being dressed up as the good guy. So will we see him finish ‘the Man’ in stunning fashion or will, McMahon get his revenge while putting his foot on the throat of any rebel-like uprising against the organization?
Finn Balor will take on Bray Wyatt in a singles match as well. This one may have a predetermined outcome … betting outlets are favouring Bray as the -1000 favourite or 1/10! Meanwhile, Finn’s best price is +550 or 5.5 to 1. So, ‘the Fiend’ has accepted Balor’s challenge in a hilarious … and dark edition of Firefly Funhouse and Las Vegas thinks that Finn Balor is going to have his hands full.
The Men’s Championship Singles Match consists of Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton. Orton is coming in as a slight underdog to Kingston, who is listed at -175. Kingston now has over 100 days as the WWE Champ. And I just don’t see Randy Orton getting another WWE Championship belt. He has already won it too many times. That said, you never know.
The Women
Both women’s titles matches are set. Natalya fought her way out of the Fatal Four-Way to become the new No. 1 contender. So now she gets her chance at Becky Lynch. In many ways this is surprising … and we shouldn’t be too surprised if this match is disrupted by Rhonda. The lines for this match opened with Lynch as a -250 favourite, but they have since moved to -300 (1 to 3). Either way, this will be a great match to watch, although I don’t think Natalya has enough momentum to warrant a change of hands with the Women’s RAW Title.
Over in SmackDown land, Bayley is a -250 favourite over Ember Moon. It’s about time that Ember got her shot. She’s been playing second fiddle for far too long.
