Welcome to WWE Clash of Champions, where the Champions will Clash… but not with each other in the WWE Thunderdome!
It’s announced immediatly that Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax and Nikki Cross have not been medically cleared to compete tonight. We reported this over here.
Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro Vs. Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado and Kalisto with Gran Metalik)
An excellent little tag team match which would’ve looked great on the main card. LHP is slowly breaking up and it showed. Dorado was thrown over the barricade, and Kalisto was caught napping in the big swing and a Kinshasa for the win.
Shinsuke & Cesaro retain the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships
Intercontinental Championship Match
Jeff Hardy (C) Vs. AJ Styles Vs. Sami Zayn (C) – Triple Threat Ladder Match
The three brawled on the outside and Zayn hit a helluva kick which sent Hardy over the barricade. There were noticeable welts on Zayn’s back. Hardy climbed the ladder but was tipped outside of the ring by Zayn and it was down to Styles and Zayn. Zayn used a ladder to make a bridge at ringside. Zayn ended up being laid out on the bridge by Styles and Hardy got back into the mix. Hardy climbed a ladder next to Zayn and did a swanton bomb off the top onto Zayn.
Sami Zayn grabbed a pair (2 pairs) of handcuffs from his ring jacket and proceeded to, first of all, put one of them through Jeff Hardy’s ear lobe onto a ladder. After some spots, Sami attached himself to AJ Styles! Somehow Jeff Hardy got back in the ring, with a ladder attached to his head and Sami Zayn unlocked his half of the handcuff and attached AJ Styles to ladder… then climbed up the ladder to win the match!
Sami Zayn retains/wins the Intercontinental Championships!
BACKSTAGE; R-Truth is lurking around and ends up in the Referees room. He steps out, but then gets rolled up by Drew Gulak! NEW 24/7 CHAMPION!
Asuka versus Zelina Vega for the RAW Women’s Championship
In Vega’s first match for a singles championship, she had an impressive game plan. While Asuka tried to play games at first, Zelina was able to get the upper hand. Once Vega realized Asuka had an injured arm, she was able to focus on a target. While Vega had some impressive moves, a mistake put her in the Asuka Lock.
Asuka retained the RAW Women’s Championship by Submission (Asuka Lock)
After the match, Asuka was interviewed by Kayla Braxton. She told Kayla that Zelina Vega was like a firecracker, small but dangerous. Even though she’s a firecracker, she still wasn’t ready for Asuka.
Zelina was back up on her feet and the two women met in the middle of the ring. Asuka offered a handshake, but instead Zelina bowed instead. Unfortunately this was just a trick on Zelina’s part as she kicked Asuka in the stomach.
Before Asuka could retaliate, Zelina scurried up the entrance ramp. Asuka then got a mic and yelled at Zelina in Japanese.
Bobby Lashley versus Apollo Crews for the United States Championship
Unfortunately for Crews, having Ricochet ringside did not help him all that much. While MVP was ringside for Lashley, he really wasn’t needed as Lashley was able to handle Crews himself. Crews was able to almost put Lashley away after a standing moonsault, but it just wasn’t enough.
Bobby Lashley retained the United States Championship via Submission (Hurt Lock)
The Street Profits versus Angel Garza and Andrade for the RAW Tag Team Championships
Andrade and Garza did show in this one that they can work together as a team without Zelina Vega. Although team work didn’t work out for them in the end. After Montez Ford got in the match, Andrade and Garza were able to isolate him from Dawkins. Unfortunately it looked like Garza suffered some sort of injury towards the end of the match, while trying to keep Montez from getting a tag. Garza was able to tag Andrade in, but in an odd ending Dawkins was able to get the pin.
The Street Profits retained the RAW Tag Team Championships
Backstage Drew Gulak was being interviewed on is 24/7 Championship victory. He said his number one rule as a coach is to always be alert, which is why he was able to win. As Gulak was dedicating his victory to Akira Tozawa, who apparently was eaten by a shark, R-Truth came up behind him. Truth threw a bowl at Gulak and rolled him up for the pin.
R-Truth won the 24/7 Championship
Back at ringside we got the entrance of Smackdown Women’s Champion, Bayley. Bayley said it was sad that Nikki Cross would be unable to compete. She said she got new gear for the occasion and now Nikki had to forfeit.
Bayley then said she’d give an opportunity to anyone in the locker room at the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She gave the locker room a moment before deciding to “close the door” on the opportunity. Then Bayley called for the referee to get in the ring and raise her hand in victory.
As Bayley was celebrating her “victory,” the RAW Women’s Champion’s music hit. Double Champion opportunity?
Bayley versus Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship
Asuka started off the match big with a few suplexes right away. Bayley then got her into an armbar, but Asuka countered into the Asuka Lock. After breaking the hold, Bayley began her attack on Asuka’s injured arm. The match wound up on the outside, where of course Bayley grabbed a chair.
Asuka won the match, but Bayley retained the Smackdown Women’s Championship via DQ
After the match as Bayley gloated….SASHA BANKS HIT HER WITH A CHAIR FROM BEHIND! As Michael Cole would say, it was BOSS TIME! Banks tried to keep the attack going, but Bayley was able to get in the ring. While Banks was trying to pull Bayley back to the outside, Bayley kicked her near the neck. This shocked Banks for a bit and allowed Bayley to throw her in the ring.
While Banks was down, Bayley grabbed more chairs and a kendo stick. Bayley took a bit too long and Banks was able to get to the kendo stick. Before Banks could use the chair, Bayley scurried off.
Ambulance Match: Drew McIntyre versus Randy Orton for the WWE Championship
After connecting with a DDT, McIntyre was taking a bit of time getting back up and Orton thought about the punt. As Orton was getting set up, his past came back to haunt him in the form of BIG SHOW! Show grabbed Orton’s leg and pulled him to the outside. Then Show put Orton through the announcers table!
This would not be the only blast from the past for Orton, as the men took the fight to the back (with McIntyre in full control), CHRISTIAN appeared! After McIntyre got thrown into a wall, Christian took the opportunity to beat up Orton. Back at ringside, McIntyre got Orton on top of the ambulance. McIntyre wasn’t able to pull off a move because of an eye gouge by Orton. Then McIntyre was tossed onto the windshield of the ambulance. If you’re keeping score, McIntyre already took out the driver side door of the ambulance…so that’ll be fun to drive.
The men took the fight to the top of the ambulance, where Orton pretty much threw McIntyre off the ambulance. When Orton turned around he was met with SWEET CHIN MUSIC! The Heartbreak Kid then gave Orton a little push and off the ambulance he went.
Orton did get McIntyre into the ambulance, but was too slow on closing the doors. McIntyre hit the Claymore and because that wasn’t enough, he hit a punt of his own!
Drew McIntyre retained the WWE Championship
After the match the ref hit the back of the ambulance for it to drive away, but it didn’t move. When the ref went to check what the issue was, we saw Ric Flair in the driver seat!
Then we got a promo for the next WWE PPV, Hell in a Cell.
Before our main event, we got a hype video featuring moments from the WWE Chronicle on Jey Uso.
Roman Reigns versus Jey Uso for the Universal Championship
Family fights like no other and we certainly saw a prime example of that in Reigns versus Uso. For awhile this match was all Reigns, but when Jey got offense in he was able to take Reigns to the count of two a few times. One of those times happened to be after a splash, but on kick out it looked like Reigns accidentally low blowed Jey. This changed the whole match.
Reigns throughout the match yelled at Jey that this is what he kept saying was coming to him. Then Reigns delivered two spears in a row because Jey would not call him the Tribal Chief. The beat down continued, Referee Charles Robinson tried to stop Reigns but was told it was family business. Finally Jimmy Uso came out with a towel. He grabbed Jey’s hand and said he had nothing to prove and he would throw the towel in.
Jey kept telling him no, but Reigns got back on him and threw punch after punch. Jimmy threw the towel in and got in the ring to stop his cousin.
Roman Reigns retained the Universal Championship
