With their Survivor Series team spots in jeopardy, will Shorty G and Mustafa Ali be able to prevail?
A recap of last week is shown before King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and Robert Roode are in the ring (to a large amount of boos). Corbin says the crowd needs to show him respect and be more like Ziggler and Roode. He goes on to say that it is no longer Roman’s yard, but his kingdom. Then, Corbin goes on to declare himself the team captain for Smackdown at Survivor Series.
Ziggler takes his opportunity to tell the crowd how Ali and Shorty G are only on the team because they run with Roman. Roode says that there are no participation trophies or handouts in Corbin’s kingdom. Tonight Roode and Ziggler will take their rightful spots on Team Corbin.
King Corbin then calls out Roman Reigns to watch the match ringside, as a showing of solidarity and all that. Although, it is not Roman who comes out but someone dressed in a dog costume. Corbin makes the dog bend the knee once in the ring.
Shorty G and Mustafa Ali defeated Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode via Pinfall (450 splash)
Teamwork makes the dream work as they say! Shorty G and Ali kept their dreams of Survivor Series alive through excellent teamwork. Definitely didn’t hurt that the real big dog, Roman Reigns came out to watch mid match and make sure Corbin didn’t try to pull any tricks.
Bray Wyatt and the Firefly Funhouse are up next. Wyatt does some magic and turns the Universal title BLUE! Says that he, or rather HE, will be watching Miz TV closely later tonight.
Braun Strowman vs The B-Team and Drew Gulak never actually happens.
Drew Gulak brought friends with him this time, but still didn’t help his cause. Gulak tries to show a presentation on why he should take Braun’s spot on the Survivor Series team. It doesn’t go over well, as Braun takes everyone out.
Shortly before their match, The New Day are interviewed by Kayla Braxton. They tell Kayla that even though Woods isn’t here, he’s always with them and they’ll keep defending the titles in his honor.
Before the tag team title match can start, we see Daniel Bryan being stopped by Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura. Zayn says after everything that happened last week. they need an answer from Daniel if he will be joining them. In turn, Daniel asks why, if they want him to join so badly, did Zayn run away last week?
Of course Zayn says that he thought Daniel was right behind him. Daniel laughs and says that he isn’t interested in joining them, but Braun Strowman would be a great choice. Zayn is very confused and says a few choice words, not realizing Strowman is right behind him. It is fun seeing Sami try to talk himself out of trouble.
The New Day (c) vs The Revival ends in No Contest
In what was an okay title match, The Revival came close to regaining their titles. Unfortunately for them, Smackdown needed to become Undisputed. With Survivor Series a week a way, Undisputed Era sent a message to the Smackdown Roster that they aren’t going away.
Heavy Machinery defeated Kevin Tibbs and Kip Stevens via Pinfall (Compactor)
Squash match, but commentary was really putting Heavy Machinery over.
Kayla Braxton interviews Bayley and Sasha Banks. She asks Bayley why her upcoming matches during Survivor Series weekend seem so personal. Bayley says that for the first time she doesn’t care about her opponents or the fans, it is all about her. When Sasha is asked about Nikki Cross possibly joining Team Smackdown, Sasha says she isn’t deserving of the spot. Sasha beat Nikki just last week and Bayley has beat her multiple times. Sasha has no doubt Bayley will do that again tonight.
Nikki Cross vs Bayley ends in No Contest
The second match to end in no contest and again NXT superstars are the culprits. After Bayley showed up and attacked Shayna Baszler at NXT, The Queen of Spades seemed to have revenge on her mind. Bayley tried to run away, but was met with Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, Dakota Kai, and Tegan Nox. Although the Smackdown Women’s roster was prepared this time and cleared their ring.
In all the chaos, Sasha Banks challenged the NXT women to a match.
Team Smackdown (Nikki Cross, Sasha Banks, Carmella, and Dana Brooke) defeated Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, Mia Yim, and Dakota Kai) via Pinfall
It’s so nice to see NXT superstars shine more than once a week, even in defeat. We got to see how bad NXT wants to beat the other brands and prove that they belong. We also finally got to see how Smackdown can handle the fight NXT brings. It was fun and at times chaotic, but so worth it.
Unfortunately for Dakota Kai her losing ways continued as she was pinned by Nikki Cross. In turn though, Nikki Cross may have gotten the approval and respect of Sasha Banks.
After a wonderful showcase of women’s wrestling, it’s time for Miz TV. As Miz is asking Daniel Bryan questions, Bryan just stays silent. Miz takes the silence as his opportunity to give what he thinks are they answers.
Miz says he thinks the Fiend attacked Bryan last week because Bryan is a shell of himself. He goes on to say that Bryan isn’t who he was ten years ago and is mentally unstable. Bryan finally heard enough.
Bryan says he has been quiet because Miz TV sucks and its always sucked. He then goes on to say that yes, he may be mentally unstable, but then again so is Bray Wyatt. The difference being, Bryan’s passion mixed with that unstableness. Bray Wyatt then interrupts from the Firefly Funhouse, tells Daniel it isn’t nice to talk about someone when they aren’t there.
Wyatt tries to get Bryan to come to the Funhouse, but Bryan keeps saying no. Bryan then lays down the challenge for Survivor Series. he’ll play if the Universal title is on the line. Wyatt accepts with a resounding chorus of yes chants as Smackdown comes to a close.
