WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results – 31st January 2020

It’s Super Smackdown Friday!!! Will it live up to the name?

We open the show with Roman Reigns and the Usos. Reigns said that although he didn’t win the Royal Rumble, he beat King Corbin and that’s a tremendous victory. With the Rumble in the past, Reigns said its time to focus on Wrestlemania with the help of the Usos.

King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and Robert Roode interrupt. Corbin had said that Roman had cheated and he wasn’t going to lose again tonight. Because of how the last two weeks have gone, Corbin asked for this rematch. The Usos decided to up the ante on the match, loser eats dog food (disgusting).

The Miz and John Morrison defeated Heavy Machinery, The Revival, and Lucha House Party via Pinfall (Starship Pain)

And your new number one contenders to the Smackdown Tag Team Titles: Miz and Morrison. This was a fun match, where each team seemed to get a moment to shine. Miz and Morrison getting the victory, well it just seemed obvious.

After a commercial we go backstage to see Heavy Machinery taking in their loss, when Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville show up. Mandy thanked Otis for all of his help at the Rumble, but Otis just seemed really nervous. Tucker gave him a small pep talk and Otis finally asked out Mandy for the following Friday! Unfortunately she has plans, but the following Friday is available. The following Friday? Valentines Day of course.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross defeated Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville via Pinfall (Twisted Bliss)

This wasn’t the greatest match, but this could mean another shot at the Women’s Tag Team Championships for Bliss and Cross. Unfortunately for Rose and Deville their chemistry tonight seemed off and Bliss and Cross capitalized on it.

Braun Strowman defeated Shinsuke Nakamura via Pinfall (Running Powerslam) to become the NEW Intercontinental Championship

Even through all of Sami Zayn’s shenanigans, Strowman pulled off the victory to finally win his first singles title. An exposed turnbuckle, that was to help Nakamura, was used in Strowman’s advantage and seeing him get his moment? Fantastic.

Coming back from a commercial, an angry Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Nakamura get interviewed. Sami starts to yell at the interviewer when he is interrupted by Elias. Elias just wants to play the Tulsa crowd a song! Zayn is continuously interrupted by Elias and he gets so angry that he sends Cesaro to the ring.

Although when Cesaro gets to the ring he has the upper hand, Elias winds up hitting him with a running knee, sending Cesaro to the floor.

After the craziness in the ring, we get a recap of the issues between Shorty G and Sheamus.

As Sheamus makes his way to the ring, Shorty G attacks him!

Sheamus defeated Shorty G via Pinfall (Brogue Kick)

I’m unsure if this rematch was actually necessary. Shorty G gave a valiant effort, but Sheamus is on a different level since his return.

A smiling Bayley makes her entrance. Bayley talks about how she just can’t be stopped. She beat Lacey Evans at Wrestlemania in front of her daughter and Bayley considers that a huge achievement.

Bayley then brings up Charlotte Flair. Bayley has beaten everyone, so Bayley is convinced Charlotte will be challenging her at Wrestlemania and wants to get it out of the way. Only Charlotte doesn’t come out, Naomi does! Naomi reminds Bayley that she hasn’t beaten her. Naomi being a former champ, says the Smackdown Women’s title needs some glow. A brawl between the two ensues, with Naomi getting the better of Bayley.

Roman Reigns and The Usos defeated King Corbin, Robert Roode, and Dolph Ziggler via Rollup

This match sure was something. I mean who wants to be fed dog food or have anything to do with it? Knowing how. Things have played out in this feud, there was no way Reigns was being fed dog food. There were moments were it looked like that was going to happen, but the Big Dog pulled off the surprise rollup and the King did not kick out.

We close out Smackdown with the Usos and Roman pouring and throwing dog food all over King Corbin.
