Smackdown comes from our very own backyard, Manchester! Tyson Fury addresses Braun Strowman and The Revival defend their Tag Team Championships.
The show opened with King Corbin coming out to the ring and making jokes about Roman Reigns being a tiny dog and not a “locker room leader” because he didn’t come out last week to save the Smackdown crew. Roman didn’t come out to respond.
Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviewed Kofi Kingston and Big E. They said they have a message to the injured Xavier Woods and Big E told Woods not to drop the soap. Kingston pointed out Woods isn’t in jail. They vowed to defeat The Revival and become seven times tag team champions.
SmackDown Tag Team Titles: The New Day defeated Champions The Revival via pinfall to win the titles.
This was a pretty decent match, as would be expected between these two world-class pairs. Dash Wilder appeared to hurt his knee at the start of the match, but he was able to gut it out. New Day managed to out-Revival The Revival by hitting a blind tag as Dawson and Wilder went for the Shatter Machine. Kofi hit Trouble In Paradise on Dawson as Big E held Wilder back to win the gold. Makes sense as it stops the match at Survivor Series being essentially NXT vs NXT vs NXT.
Backstage, Roman Reigns arrived at the arena and ran into Shorty G, who told Reigns about King Corbin’s talking smack about him.
Sami Zayn talks with Daniel Bryan backstage about joining his group of former really good wrestlers (Shinsuke, Cesaro & Himself). Daniel isn’t sure.
Heavy Machinery was already in the ring before their match, but NXT UK’s Imperium attacked them from behind. New Day and a bunch of SmackDown’s finest mid-carders ran out for the save, but Imperium scarpered.
Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviewed SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and Sasha Banks. Bayley talked about NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler jumping her last week. She pointed out that it was Bayley and Banks that put the NXT Woman’s division on the map and Banks promised to defeat Nikki Cross later. Bayley concluded by promising to beat Baszler and Becky Lynch at Survivor Series.
Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Ali & Shorty G via pinfall
Daniel Bryan watched on from the ramp, still have no idea why Sami Zayn isn’t wrestling. This was a good little match, where the finish came about as Ali climbed to the top,. Zayn interfered, leading to Cesaro pushing Ali off the top. Nakamura then hit the Kinshasa for the win.
Post-match, Zayn invited Daniel Bryan into the ring but he walked off instead.
Sasha Banks defeated Nikki Cross via submission
This was a good match. Sasha has a new remixed version of her theme featuring Snoop Dogg, and it slaps. Banks had early advantage, but Nikki Cross fought back leading Banks to bail outside. They went back and forth, until Banks countered The Purge into the Bank Statement for the win.
Shayna Baszler attacked Bayley afterwards who was at ringside on commentary. Sasha Banks took awhile to save her as she was mocking the crowd.
Backstage, Sami Zayn spoke with Daniel Bryan. He told Bryan to forget about the Yes Movement and the Yes chant and join them. Suddenly, the lights went out and the red light came on. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt was standing behind Bryan, who attacked him with the Mandible claw.
Tyson Fury comes out and calls out Braun Strowman. After a face to face, he says he wants to form a team with Strowman. The crowd hated this live. The B Team come out and get laid out by Fury and Braun.
Carmella and Dana Brooke defeated Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose via pinfall.
The winning team joins Sasha Banks on Team SmackDown for Survivor Series. Dana Brooke being on TV was a nice novelty. Fire and Desire. Dana looked pretty decent and picked up the win with a swanton bomb.
King Corbin pinned Roman Reigns via pinfall
This was your garden variety main event. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode ran interference throughout to give King Corbin the advantage. Roman fought back and set up for the Superman Punch, but Roode caused a distraction. Roman fought Roode and Ziggler off but got caught in the End of Days for the win.
