The aftermath of Wrestlemania hits Smackdown. What is in store for the new Universal Champion, Braun Strowman?
We opened the show with the new Universal Champion, Braun Strowman. He walked out with a huge smile.
After Strowman made his entrance, we went back to Wrestlemania Night One and saw how he won the title from Goldberg. Once the replay was over, we went back to the ring. Strowman said he took everything Goldberg threw at him and refused to give up. Before he could continue talking about his Mania moment, Shinsuke Nakamura interrupted.
Strowman asked him what he wanted, Nakamura said he was out there to knock at opportunities door. Nakamura said the last time we saw Strowman, Nakamura and the Artist Collective beat him.
The Universal Champion didn’t seem thrilled. He told Nakamura to let him enjoy his night as he beats Nakamura up. Nakamura warned him to be careful what he wishes for. After Strowman told him he’ll catch these hands, Cesaro tried to sneak attack. Nakamura kicks Strowman in the head after the distraction and left the ring. We go to commercial.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross defeated Kairi Sane and Asuka to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships
The Kabuki Warriors started off the match with a quick pace, isolating Alexa Bliss from the start. At one point Asuka and Nikki Cross were brawling on the commentary table. Although Kairi and Asuka were in control the majority of the match, Alexa and Nikki had great awareness to secure their victory.
After another commercial we came back to see Elias. He sang us a song about defeating King Corbin, right from the perch Corbin tried to end his career from. During the song Elias sang about winning the Money In The Bank match and going on to win a Championship…who knows if that could happen.
We once again go back to Wrestlema, this time to Otis and Mandy Rose’s happy love story. After the replay, Sonya Deville and Dolph Ziggler came out and yelled at commentary. They weren’t happy about the footage being replayed, they said it was doctored and that they just wanted to look out for their friend.
Tucker then came out to show Ziggler some photos. The photos happened to be of Otis and Mandy Rose working out and sharing bananas? They were something. After showing Ziggler the photos, Tucker said he had some unfinished business with him.
Dolph Ziggler defeated Tucker via Pinfall (Superkick)
Deville definitely played a factor in this one. She was a distraction that allowed Ziggler to gain a bit of momentum, that didn’t last terribly long. Even with controlling much of the match with intensity, Ziggler was able to hit the superkick and land on Tucker for the pin.
Before going to commercial, we got a glimpse of the ending of the ladder match from Wrestlemania. We are told we will hear from Miz and Morrison when we come back.
Back from commercial, we got the Dirt Sheet. Miz and Morrison give us a rundown of Wrestlemania and the “good news.” It….was something. They even gave us a live performance of their new song, ‘Hey Hey.’
Of course their performance got interrupted by the Usos. The Usos said they were going to let them finish out of respect, but they just couldn’t. They reminded Miz and Morrison that they are the tag team champions, meaning they both have to defend the titles.
Miz and Morrison weren’t falling into the trap the Usos tried to lay down….so the New Day interrupted.
Big E said that Wrestlemania, the original plan for it didn’t happen. So according to E, that means the members of each team who did not get to compete at Mania, should get to compete in a match. Kofi then said they talked to everyone they could possibly need to, next week there will be a triple threat match. Big E versus Miz versus Jey Uso for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. Holla, holla!!!
Forgotten Sons defeated Lucha House Party via Pinfall
Never thought I’d be typing that the Forgotten Sons were victorious in their Smackdown debut, but here we are. Was not a quick squash match by any means, definitely will be interesting to see what happens with the Forgotten Sons now.
Backstage we saw the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross enjoying their victory. Carmella and Dana Brooke eventually came up to them and proposed a match for the tag titles. After a little consideration, Cross and Bliss accept.
Sasha and Bayley then made their entrances before another commercial break.
Back from break, Bayley talked about how Paige attempted to ruin her Mania and her friendship with Sasha. Bayley then reminded us that anyone who thinks they can touch her, well she’s beaten everyone.
Everyone who was expecting the end of their friendship or Bayley to lose the title? Banks and Bayley say screw you. Banks then said no one can touch them.
Bayley attempts to compliment her a lot, but Tamina wasn’t having it. Tamina said it took everyone to beat her at Mania, no one actually beat her. Tamina then asked for a one on one match.
Banks tried to squash that real quick, but Bayley threw her under the bus. Bayley said Tamina could get her match….if she beat the Boss. Banks is less then thrilled and before Tamina left, she made sure Sasha knew her “bestie” screwed her over.
Sheamus defeated Cal Bloom via Pinfall (Brogue Kick)
This wasn’t a long match, but it sure was good to see Sheamus. After his victory, Sheamus went passed commentary table and seemed to have a stare down with Corey Graves. Graves was talking about Jeff Hardy as Sheamus was walking towards the entrance.
We then got a look at what seemed to be a Jeff Hardy WWE 24.
Braun Strowman defeated Shinsuke Nakamura via Pinfall (Powerslam)
The match lasted maybe ten minutes? Although Nakamura had moments, the new champion showed no signs of losing.
After the match, the Firefly Funhouse began! Bray Wyatt began by saying he had history to rewrite. We got a recap of the Firefly Funhouse match.
Wyatt then talked about the history he has with Strowman and that Strowman basically has Wyatt to thank for making him who he is. The men went back and forth verbally for a few, but Wyatt said that Strowman has something he wants….the Universal Title.
He then tried to end the Funhouse, but the new Universal Champion wanted the last words. Strowman is ready to ‘let him in’ and ends with a very enthusiastic bye! That’s Smackdown for ya!
