WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results – February 28, 2020

Paige Brearley runs down the results from tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

The night after Super Showdown sees a new man at the top of the mountain, but who will challenge him on the Road to WrestleMania?

The show opens with the new WWE Champion, Goldberg. He says it doesn’t matter who was last, but who’s next.

Cue Roman Reigns. Reigns and Goldberg have a bit of a stare down. All Reigns has to say is “I’m next”. Mic drop.

Before the rematch(non title of course) between Bayley and Naomi can begin, Bayley gets a mic. She said she shouldn’t have to be at Smackdown tonight, she made history yesterday with her victory over Naomi. While Bayley doesn’t want to be there, she is for one reason. She then introduces Sasha Banks.

Naomi defeated Bayley via DQ

Bayley of course capitalized on Banks making her entrance by attacking Naomi. Just when it seemed Naomi was going to pin the champion, Banks interfered.

This interference led to a two on one assault on Naomi. That is until Lacey Evans came out to help Naomi. Once the brawl between the four women got under control, the referee made the decision to restart the match as a tag match.

Naomi and Lacey Evans defeated Sasha Banks and Bayley via Pinfall (Sunset Flip)

Naomi pinned the champion, what this will mean for her going forward? Yet to be seen, but this tag match was good!

After the match we see Kofi Kingston and Big E backstage While they are walking, presumably to make their entrance, they run into Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Roode versus Kingston is next.

Robert Roode defeated Kofi Kingston via Rollup

Shenanigans all day, but are we really surprised? Big E unfortunately got ejected from ringside for something that he didn’t do. This left Kofi outnumbered, which Roode and Ziggler used to their advantage. Ziggler caused a distraction, allowing Roode the victory.

After the match we get ready for the Intercontinental Championship contract signing. A week from Sunday, Braun Strowman will defend against Shinsuke Nakamura.

Before anyone can sign the contract, Sami Zayn wants to look over the language to make sure it is to their liking. Zayn then goes off on a tangent.

Strowman finally shuts him up by saying he doesn’t care what is in the contract. He knows, no matter what, he will have to fight Zayn, Cesaro, and Nakamura. This turns out to be a mistake.

Zayn makes amendments to the contract, making the match a 3 on 1 handicap match. As with most contract signings this one ends in a brawl and with Strowman put through a table.

We then get it confirmed, after their earlier confrontation, it will be Goldberg versus Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania.

Daniel Bryan defeated Curtis Axel via Submission (Yes Lock)

Another week of Drew Gulak taking someone under his wing to show the flaws in Daniel Bryan’s game. Although, once again Gulak’s plan did not work out.

The new Smackdown Tag Team Champions make their way to the ring. They talk all about how they are so much better than they ever were. No matter the hate thrown their way, Miz and Morrison just hear the sweet sounds of victory.

After Morrison gets Miz’s music played so they can celebrate, we see a ref go over to Greg Hamilton. Interrupting Miz and Morrison’s celebration, Hamilton announces they will be defending their tag team titles in the Elimination Chamber. Teams in the match include: New Day, Heavy Machinery, Lucha House Party, Ziggler and Roode, and the Usos.

Needless to say, Miz and Morrison are less then thrilled.

The Usos defeated Miz and Morrison via Pinfall (Diving Splash)

Do yourself a favor and go watch the end of this match, the Usos are amazing. Top rope piledriver into a splash?! Like, what!

After a commercial we come back to the long awaited return of John Cena. The crowd is hyped and Cena is just having a lot of fun being back. He almost can’t believe he is back. He knows the crowd wants to know his plans or Wrestlemania.

Cena said he knows his role within the company has changed over the years, so Mania will look a lot different. Because he prides himself on listening to the WWE Universe and they are all passionate about the future of WWE…he said this is the right thing to do. Cena will not be at Wrestlemania, it will go on without him.

The crowd really didn’t take that well. Cena had said that this wouldn’t be a goodbye, but he doesn’t know when he will be back. He let everyone know that he will always be a WWE superstar. He thanked the Boston crowd for all their chants and begins to leave the ring.

As Cena is giving, what could be his final salute, the lights go out. When they came back on and Cena turned around, there is the Fiend. The Fiend simply points to the Wrestlemania sign. John Cena simply gives him a tip of the hat and a You Can’t See Me. Just when you think he is out, they pull him back in! That’s the show folks!
