After a disappointing showing at Survivor Series, will the RAW roster be able to bounce back?
Opening the show is Seth Rollins hosting a town hall meeting, Of course the Chicago crowd starts chanting for CM Punk before Rollins can begin the meeting. He responds by saying he tried to get him here, but Punk would rather talk about change than be a part of it.
Rollins then moves on to discuss last night’s disappointing showing for the RAW Roster. He points out everyone’s faults, like Charlotte and Randy Orton. Orton and Charlotte proceed to leave ringside, they are pretty fed up with Seth. After calling out Rey Mysterio for failing to capture the WWE Championship, the roster leaves ringside. Well everyone, but Kevin Owens.
Owens enters the ring and although he has a mic Seth does all the talking. Rollins calls Kevin lazy and that he’ll never be “Seth Rollins, no matter how. much he tries.” Owens doesn’t take this well, so he gives Seth a Stunner and leaves the ring.
Rollins is interviewed by Charly Caruso, he tells Charly nothing went according to plan out there. Rollins then challenges Owens to a match later in the night.
Bobby Lashley defeated Titus O’Neil via DQ
This match was subpar at best, but Chicago was in full agreement in cheering against Lashley. Lashley won because Rusev attacked him.
Rusev was just a beast. He wasn’t technically supposed to be in Chicago because he was hit with another restraining order, but he wasn’t letting that stop him. After jumping Lashley, the men continued to brawl up the ramp towards the commentary table. Rusev threw Lashley into part of the entrance ramp, breaking one of the screens. Local cops finally caught up and began to put Rusev in cuffs, he pushes Lashley off the stage. Just to add insult to injury, he pushes over a part of the stage to insure Lashley has to leave on a stretcher.
AOP defeated Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder via Pinfall (Powerbomb/Neck Breaker Combo)
Good first match back for AOP. They’ve said they will show all the RAW tag teams they are the most dominate tag team. AOP is well on their way in doing so.
Andrade defeated Akira Tozawa via Pinfall (Hammerlock DDT)
A solid match, Andrade looked really good in it. For once Zelina didn’t interfere, which was refreshing.
Aleister Black addresses Buddy Murphy’s attempt to knock on his door last week. Black says he will be watching Murphy’s match tonight closely.
Buddy Murphy defeated Matt Hardy via Pinfall (Knee Strike)
The crowd popped loud for Matt Hardy, seeing him back on RAW after a long time a way was really great. Unfortunately for Hardy, he could not withstand Murphy’s tremendous knee strikes.
After winning the match, Murphy “knocked” on Black’s door again. This time Aleister was quick to answer, as he ran out to the ring to confront Murphy. The men brawl for a bit and Aleister is the last one standing.
Charlotte is shown backstage, she is interviewed about last night. Says she never claimed to be a team player, but was the only one qualified to lead the team. This leads her to discuss her upcoming match with Asuka. Flair says the only way Asuka can beat her is with the green mist. Tonight she reminds Asuka why she is the ten time champion and the Queen.
AJ Styles vs Humberto Carrillo never starts. Gallows and Anderson beat up Carrillo upon his entrance.
Ricochet comes out, but he is a tad too late to help Carrillo. AJ and the OC make fun of Carrillo and Ricochet. Styles says Ricochet isn’t the superhero he portrays as he couldn’t save Carrillo.
Once Ricochet gets a mic, he challenges AJ to a US title match. Of course, AJ declines as he signed a contract to face Humberto Carrillo. Randy Orton’s music hits and he says that Chicago would love to see him hit the RKO on AJ tonight and win the US title.
Drew McIntyre eventually comes out to challenge AJ. His reasoning of why he should be the one to face AJ is because he’s never faced AJ and its a new match up.
AJ begins making up more excuses as to why he can’t wrestle tonight. Says he is banged up from last night, which leads to Rey Mysterio coming out. Rey tells AJ that if he wants to talk about being sore or injured after last night, to look no further than him. Rey than lays out his own challenge for the US title, to which AJ declines.
Ricochet then says they should just have a fatal four way match to determine the number one contender.
Rey Mysterio defeated Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, and Ricochet to become the Number One Contender to the US title.
A really fun match with a lot of great spots. Randy and Drew teamed up together for a while, but then decided to trade chops which did not work well for Randy. After the night Rey had at Survivor Series, it was good to see him get this win.
Rey Mysterio defeated AJ Styles via Pinfall (Frog Splash)
Good back and forth match until Rey goes for a 619 and Anderson grabs his leg. This causes the ref to eject Gallows and Anderson. When Rey finally hits the 619 properly, AJ ends up knocking out the ref. Gallows and Anderson come back out, but Randy Orton comes out to help Rey.
After winning the title, Rey cuts a promo saying he is proud of Dominik, who was out there to celebrate with him. He goes on to say, if it wasn’t
Charly Caruso attempts to interview Kevin Owens, but Owens takes the mic to speak directly to Seth Rollins. Owens said he heard every word that Seth said earlier tonight, but Owens has known who he was since he laced up a pair of boots. He’s Kevin Owens and he’s perfectly okay with that. Tonight Monday Night Rollins becomes the Kevin Owens show.
Asuka defeated Charlotte Flair via Pinfall (Rollup after Green Mist)
Charlotte spent too much time worrying about Kairi Sane during this match, even at one point chasing her into the crowd. This definitely was her downfall.
Erick Rowan defeated two local talents via Pinfall
A quick match yet again for Rowan. At least he had the mysterious cage with him again.
A replay of what went down with Rusev and Lashley is showed before Lana is interviewed. Lana says Rusev is obsessed with her and that WWE needs to fire Rusev.
Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins via DQ
In what was an entertaining match, AOP came down to ruin it. Owens tried to fight them off but failed. Rollins made it out unscathed, even though he did have a staredown with AOP. Because of the destruction by AOP, this left Owens vulnerable, and then Rollins hit two devastating Curb Stomps to end the show.
