For the first time in over a year, WWE welcomes back a capacity crowd back for a pay-per-view as Money In The Bank 2021 hails from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas!
We’re back in business baby! Crowds are back for WWE PPVs once again and they are in for a treat tonight. Edge finally gets his one on one match for the Universal Championship and Kofi Kingston gets an opportunity to become WWE Champion once again.
As per usual our kick off panel gave us a run down of what to expect tonight and gave us their predictions. Then we got into our first match of the night with the Smackdown Tag Team Championships on the line.
The Usos defeated The Mysterios via Pinfall to become the NEW Smackdown Tag Team Champions
In our first title change of the night, Jimmy and Jey Uso used every trick they could to become 7-time tag team champions. While the Mysterios were stellar, especially with their new alternate universe entrance, The Usos were able to gain the pinfall with some trickery. Jey Uso gave more leverage to his brother in order to keep Rey Mysterio’s shoulders down.
After a welcome video to the show, Pat McAfee and Michael Cole welcomed us to the show. Then we got right into entrances for our first match: The Women’s Money In The Bank match.
Nikki A.S.H. defeated Liv Morgan, Natalya, Tamina, Zelina Vega, Naomi, and Alexa Bliss to win the Women’s MITB briefcase
Bet ya didn’t see that one coming! The almost superhero shocked the world and was the one to take down the briefcase. We began the match with every competitor going to the outside to grab ladders, well except for Alexa Bliss who just stood atop the turn buckles. As ladders were brought into the ring, Bliss came down from her corner and skipped around. With no one in the ring, Bliss looked to use magic or super powers to get the briefcase down instead of the many ladders. I honestly wish she did it would have been fun to see.
Instead of magic, Bliss was stopped by Asuka! Once Asuka hit a German Suplex on Bliss, the rest of the women began to join the fray. Natalya and Liv Morgan went after each other and then Nikki A.S.H. joined the fun.
Naomi then joined in and hit Rearview. There was a lot of involvement from everyone. Bliss got her face smashed by the ladder. But she also put Zelina Vega under her spell at one point. Tamina and Nattie seemed to be all over the match stopping anyone and everyone from climbing the ladder. There was a hell of a lot of action.
The end of the match saw everyone throw ladders on top of Bliss to keep her down. Then we had three ladders set up under the briefcase. Nattie, Tamina, Vega, Liv, Naomi, and Asuka where on the three ladders all reaching and fighting for the briefcase. In the end Nikki climbed over everyone and grabbed the briefcase during the chaos.
After the match we saw The Usos celebrate their victory with their cousin, Roman Reigns. Reigns said he was happy for them on their championship victory. Jimmy and Jey said they won for him. Reigns told them it has been a long journey to get here so they need to hold onto those titles. Winning was the easy part.
Jimmy and Jey then acknowledged Reigns as their tribal chief and the group shared a hug.
AJ Styles and Omos defeated The Viking Raiders via Pinfall
Of course Styles was in the ring to start the match, but quickly tagged in the much larger Omos. The Viking Raiders did go for a double team approach, but I mean it is Omos. Once it looked like Omos got the match in a good spot, Styles tagged back into the match. Styles was not able to get the victory after a quick pin attempt. Instead the challengers looked to take back control of the match and keep Styles away from Omos.
When it looked like Ivar had the pin, Omos shoved Erik to break up the pin attempt. Then tags were made and Omos made quick work of The Viking Raiders to ensure the tag team titles stayed with him.
Drew McIntyre was then interviewed backstage. He wanted to hear some noise from the crowd and he got that. Then McIntyre said it is not just that he wants to win tonight, its that he needs to. The last time he was in Texas he won the Royal Rumble. Tonight McIntyre rolls into Fort Worth and breaks bones to walk out as the Money in the Bank briefcase winner.
We then saw a video highlighting all that has been going on between Bobby Lashley and Kofi Kingston. Looks like the WWE Championship will be defended next.
Bobby Lashley defeated Kofi Kingston via Submission (The Hurt Lock)
This match just angered me. Kingston got no offense in. Right from the jump it was all Lashley. Lashley tossed Kingston into the ring post multiple times and then just took his time putting the match away. Kingston had said Lashley was looking soft and Lashley took that to heart. Lashley absolutely destroyed the former WWE Champion.
We then saw a video package highlighting the RAW Women’s Championship match.
Charlotte Flair defeated Rhea Ripley via Submission (Figure Eight) to become the RAW Women’s Champion
Oh Fort Worth, while I too would like to see the return of Becky Lynch y’all really shouldn’t have been chanting for her during this match. This match definitely didn’t get off on the right foot. I mean Charlotte Flair flicked off the crowd and the stream went to a black screen for a moment.
But when it came down to it, these two women put on a hard hitting contest and went to war. The action was all over the ring and at times outside of it. Flair busted out the Boston Crab, which Ripley was somehow able to counter into a pin attempt. Ripley was able to hit Flair with a huge suplex that got her close to a pin, but no go. Then Ripley pulled out chops against a Flair!
Flair hit a big boot on Ripley that sent her to the floor and then Flair went to the top rope. MOONSAULT!! Although once Flair got Ripley back into the ring, Ripley avoided Natural Selection. This allowed Ripley to put Flair into the cloverleaf. While this did look promising for a moment for the champion, Flair was able to counter into a pin attempt. Flair also was eventually able to counter the Riptide into a DDT!
In the end when it looked like Flair was in a rough spot, she smashed Ripley’s head into the ring post. This allowed her to trap Ripley’s leg in between the steel steps…..Flair proceed to SMASH THE HELL OUT OF RIPLEY’S LEG. Pulling her back into the ring, Figure Eight and that was that.
Big E defeated Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, Riddle, Ricochet, and John Morrison
They got it right! It’s Big E’s time! I missed the good majority of the match because Peacock TV is terrible, but what I saw of it was pretty great. Did I get to see any entrances? No.
What I finally did get to see was Nakamura put Morrison into an armbar at the top of the ladders! Rollins though broke that up by delivering a knee to Nakamura! Then somehow Rollins and Morrison agreed to work together. Morrison and Rollins took out Big E, Nakamura, and for a brief moment McIntyre.
After they took out Riddle, KO looked to grab Rollins and fight with him on the outside. For whatever reason, Morrison decided to help out Rollins before KO could do any damage. Eventually Morrison and Rollins set up a ladder as a bridge between the ring and the announcer’s table.
We saw Riddle RKO a few people. We saw Ricochet get pushed off a ladder but springboard off the ropes and hit a Senton Atomico on to the group outside the ring. KO took a beating, he was thrown spine first into the ladder and then powerbombed onto the ladder bridge. Although he did hit the Stunner on multiple people, which is always fun to watch.
In the end though, Big E stopped Rollins from climbing the ladder with a HUGE Big Ending off the ladder. Then E was able to make the climb with no one in sight to stop him and gain the victory.
Roman Reigns defeated Edge via Pinfall (Spear)
He was so close to the dirty dozen guys. Edge was phenomenal in this match and Seth Rollins screwed him over.
The two competitors took in the moment and the cheers with the crowd before the match truly began. Of course when the action went into the corner, the champion did not make a clean break. Don’t worry though, Edge paid him back with a pie face.
Honestly I could give a huge rundown of the whole match, but it is one to be watched. Edge and Reigns really put on a good show, even better than I was expecting. They traded hard shots and really left it all out there. Edge was ready for whatever Reigns threw at him. Reigns did send Edge to the outside and celebrated it. But Edge was not going to give up that easy.
We saw Edge avoid the Superman punch by turning it into a backslide pin attempt! He even pulled out the Edge-O-Matic! Of course the action went outside of the ring. Reigns went for a spear, but Edge moved out of the way sending Reigns through the barricade! Edge then rolled back in the ring to stop the count, but quickly rolled back to the outside. EDGE SPEARED REIGNS THROUGH ANOTHER BARRICADE!
He then carried Reigns back into the ring, but Reigns kicked out of the pin attempt! Of course what is a championship match without the referee being taken out? Little Naitch, Charles Robinson, accidentally was taken out when he got hit by Edge. With Edge and the referee down, Reigns tried to take advantage.
Reigns went to the outside and broke a chair to take a small piece from it. Edge did not let Reigns get his cross face locked in though. In the end Edge used the piece of chair on Reigns in his own cross face! Unfortunately Rollins broke up the fun.
Reigns tried to take advantage of Rollins’ interference, but failed. Edge then hit a massive Spear on Reigns, but there was still no new referee. By the time a referee came down, Reigns kicked out of the pin. Rollins came back down to the ring and Edge tried to get rid of him. This of course left the door open for Reigns who hit a spear on Edge.
After the match, Rollins proceeded to attack Edge. Then he turned to his former brother and said if it wasn’t for him Edge would be champion right now. Edge though got back up and threw punches at Rollins and the two fought into the crowd.
Then Reigns was given a mic and said now the whole world could acknowledge him. Until….
TRUMPETS BLARED AND JOHN CENA RETURNED! As Cena took in the moment, he looked at the camera and said it had been too long. The fans in attendance went crazy seeing the 16-time World Champion. Cena got in the ring, acknowledged the fans and just looked at Reigns. He didn’t need a mic to convey why he was back, but he did eye the Universal Championship a bit.
We end a pretty good WWE PPV, with the homecoming of one of its biggest stars.
