WWE NXT Results – January 8th, 2020

The fifth Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic gets underway as NXT kicks off the year with its first live broadcast.

Rhea Ripley cut an in-ring promo but was quickly interrupted by Toni Storm. Storm congratulated Ripley, but was quick to remind her that she’s beaten her twice in the past.

After vowing to win the NXT UK Women’s Championship this Sunday at TakeOver: Blackpool, Storm challenged Ripley to an NXT Women’s Title match at Worlds Collide. Ripley accepted the challenge.

NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray came out shortly afterwards and said that there is no way that Storm will beat her in Blackpool. Shortly afterwards, Io Shirai came out and pointed at Ripley’s title. Bianca Belair and Candice LeRae both followed suit.

Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm & Candice LeRae defeated Bianca Belair, Kay Lee Ray & Io Shirai via pinfall

Ripley pinned Belair for the win. After the match, Candice LeRae eyed off the NXT Women’s Title.

Imperium (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) defeated The Forgotten Sons via pinfall

Austin Theory defeated Joaquin Wilde via pinfall

The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) defeated Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) via pinfall

Johnny Gargano cut a promo addressing Finn Balor. He highlighted Balor’s hypocrisy in leaving NXT for the main roster whilst Gargano “strapped a rocket” to NXT and took it to new heights.

This prompted a response from Balor. He poked fun at Gargano’s injuries and referred to him as “Johnny Promo”. Balor then challenged Gargano to a match at TakeOver: Portland, provided he can make it.

Alex Shelley was announced as Kushida’s tag team partner in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The Time Splitters face the Grizzled Young Veterans in the first round next week.

Mia Yim defeated Kayden Carter via pinfall

Yim hit Carter with a ‘Protect Ya Neck’ as she came off the top rope for the win.

Both women showed some sportsmanship after the match, but they were blindsided by Chelsea Green. Green was accompanied by a mouthpiece called Robert Stone, who referred to Green as the first signee of his brand.

It was announced that there will be an NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contendership battle royal next week. The winner will challenge for the title at TakeOver: Portland.

NXT North American Championship number one contender four-way match: Keith Lee defeated Dominik Dijakovik, Damian Priest and Cameron Grimes via pinfall
